I was wondering, although the monstrous Arcanum says the Dread saurian is the largest carnivore in Lustria, it doesn't have the large target rule like the carnosaur. So my question is... I'm considering sculpting a dread saurian, should I make it bigger or the same size as the GW carnosaur?
There is indeed, I got to see and hold it at Gamesday. However there was a huge amount of butthurt and angst being thrown around on Warseer about the model, while I personally like it, I was thinking about having a go at sculpting my own carnosaur for a while with Krok Gar, so figured I might as well go the whole hog and combine the two (Krok Gar on Dread saurian). Keep your eyes peeled, I have more than a few lizardman sculpts coming...
Weren't there a debate on the Dread Saurian model that pointed out an empty spot on its back that looked like it was made for a rider? this gives room for thought as the Arcanum Saurian isn't a mount option.
If there was, I missed it. I'm not sculpting it like that for gaming purposes, I'm choosing to do it because I think it would look awesome.
Go with the size of the forthcoming WF model and try to make it closer to the artwork in Monstrous Arcanum, especially with regards to armour and the shape of the head. That would be awesome to see. And of course it's a large taget, they just forgot to put the rule in the book.
oh no accusations intended, you just got me thinking of that old debate http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/dread-saurian-model.13092/ (Pictures in link btw ) Cant really argue that it would indeed be a cool sight! in-game or just for looks. agreed.
Not a problem, no offence taken at any point. I think scale wise I'll go with the MA, you have a picture of the skink next to it, so that offers a very workable size reference (plus I have the book). As for the model, I remember Trish saying she left the armour off to give people freedom to convert it as they see fit.
I haven't read any fluff about this beast, but since it's called "Saurian"... how about a monstrous Saurus look?
If she meant it will be included in the kit as separate parts then fair enough. If I have to sculpt my own armour I don't see much point in buying what is essentially an incomplete model.
That sounds like a typical Gw fallacy, "we'll let people sculpt their own armour", the casual assumption that everyone of their customers is a pro-grade sculptor is mind-bogglingly stupid, I certainly don't the skills to sculpt armour similar to the DS concept art, and I can't think of any existing GW kits that I could 'borrow' pieces from to easily convert. I mean if they had produced the plastic stegadon model without the Howdah with a note in the instructions saying "we have decided not to make a howdah or skink crew for this kit to allow our loyal customers the exciting hobby opportunity of sculpting their own" I think there would have been complaints.
Agreed. Giving us the "freedom" to sculpt our own armor is a cop out. If only Rikard sculpted all our LM models....
There was a huge argument on Warseer (I say argument, but it was along the lines of the usual Warseer butthurt you get whenever Trish produces a new sculpt) about the Dread Saurian. I like the model Trish has done, I really do, she's still my favourite monster sculptor, but I don't understand why people can be so angry/cruel towards her, some of the stuff that gets posted is nothing short of pathetic as it's just insult slinging. I don't think sculpting the armour would be hard to be honest, regardless of your skills, which is why when I get around to doing mine I will be doing everything I can to breaking down the whole sculpting process, explaining my choices, ideas and decisions so that for those of you who want to sculpt your own, or your own armour, you can. Or at the very least you should find it a little easier. I won't be starting it for a while yet though, I have half of a Howling Banshee Dark eldar to finish first and then my take on the Lotl. But I'll keep you all updated when I do.
id feel kinda let down if it didnt come with armor to add to it. only because i dont have the bits for armor and id feel id do a shitty job on this brand new expensive model hopefully the final version will have armor you can add on it or something
Looks like we're getting some armour after all! I hope she repeats the concept all over the model because this looks great!
She made great models during Marauder's time but now i feel like she doesn't know much about anatomy , her fantasy on detailing miniatures lack, i've the black dragon kit( as its body is used by warpfire dragon) and it has just scratches and little holes all over it with no much sense, also the expression of models face are always the same, check the manticore and chimera and scyla ..... there're better sculptor for monsters in FW and GW
She seems to be like marmite, you either love her or hate here, there are no inbetweens. I was thinking for a while about doing my own dread saurian, but to be honest, with a unit of heavily converted SCOR, 3 razordons, 3 salamanders and at least two saurus characters, a new and dark/haunting take on Nakai (I am hyper excited about this one as I think it will make all my previous sculpts look like the stuff that comes out of your nose when you have a cold and sneeze a bit too hard) and then a scratch built steg, that I more than have my work cut out for me.
looking forward to see all that overall Nakai one of my fav characters..... And i admit i've some of her sculpts like the 5th edition chaos hounds, they are anatomically poor but full of character
