1k starter army to be played against my friend's 1k WoC starter army, both without magic yet. Scar Veteran General - 160 Light Armour, Cold One Burning Blade of Chotec, Enchanted Shield, Bane Head Scar Veteran BSB - 146 Great Weapon, Light Armour, Battle Standard Bearer Charm of the Jaguar Warrior 15 Saurus Warriors - 198 Spears, Musician, Standard 11 Skinks + Kroxigore - 110 10 Temple Guard - 181 Musician, Standard 5 Cold One Cavalry - 205 Musician, Standard ---------------------------- All in all a neat 1000 points. The GW scar vet is there to possibly leap out and pin down chariots/light cav while the scar vet general will be used to hunt his General and his knights (I know he CRAVES the really quite gorgeous Chaos chariot model). Overall I'm hoping to use the mobile parts of my army to restrict the deadly parts of his army while with luck I quickly cut through his cheap and weak units. Knowing him he won't expect any heroes to fly out of units on a cold one/the wind.
Re: Dumbledore's first army - 1k Looks like quite a good list. Only thing I'm not sure about are the temple guard. I would personally prefer a unit of kroxigors (especially agains WoC) but that is just my opinion. Or else perhaps another saurus unit (14 spears).
Re: Dumbledore's first army - 1k I think that army is really nice except I would probably exchange the scar-vet BSB for a skink chief BSB and the rest of the points would be used for other upgrades or stuff like that but else that army is really nice
Re: Dumbledore's first army - 1k I totally agree though sadly I just don't have the models or money. As the spirit of the game will be friendly I don't mind having an inefficient unit, especially since I think the models are sexy. We all know that's what counts, really. Sorry but no way I chose a scar vet as bsb mainly because I wanted the str7 chariot popping (a str7 wound kills a chariot in one), especially since I pretty much know for sure that he will field at least one chariot. A skink just wouldn't have the power. The one worry I do have with him is that the lack of magic on both sides will neuter his jag charm, since he will have 2 DD to dispel that single power level 5 spell. I guess I'll just have to not rely on it, instead having it as a nice suprise if it works (ie get him into combat with a saurus unit then attempt to jaguar him into a position threatening the nearby chariot). I have about half of the army painted, with a kroxigore and scar vet on CO arriving later this week making it just the scar vet on foot to buy (probably a Chakax model and convert if the thing on his back doesn't look BSB enough). Once I get access to a decent camera I'll put a thread up in the painting section
Re: Dumbledore's first army - 1k sorry should have fought abaout that but somehow I think you should really get some more magic
This is a nice list, here are my opinions. 1. Your JSoD has the BSB. Usually a JSoD is a bit of a lone wolf. Jumping after chariots and will probably die at the end of the game, after causing masses of destruction. Having him carry your BSB means that he might not be within 12" of a combat and that if/when he dies you hand more VP to your opponent. 2. Even though you and your mate dont use magic, the Jag charm prob still wont work. Your opponent will have 2DD and so should beat it everytime. 3. TG are a waste of points in this size of game. For that price you can get 15 Saurus with Spears that will throw more punches and stay around longer. If I was your opponent I would go for that unit immediately. 4. Generals build is niiiiiiccceee. Him in the CoR will make a deadly hammer unit that can take on anything. 5. Mixed unit is nice, just make sure they dont get into combat on their own, they are much more of a support unit for your saurus. 6. Looks like you bought the Batallion Box and are working from that, so you should try and get some more skinks in as they can be EXTREMELY annoying for your opponent (esp if he has frenzy).
I probably wouldn't run him solo, so the only time he'd really be vulnerable would be if he leapt out, which i'd only do in the case of a chariot. That's even presuming it isn't dispelled. BSB was because i had 22 points spare, so i dropped a shield and took the flag for a round 1000. I don't really mind VP as long as it's a nice clean list that plays fun and isn't lame in any way. Yeah I wont rely on it really, just thought it would be fun if it works. Yeah but no other models :/ I hope he does go for them immediately 'cause I intend to support them nicely. Yeah that'll be #1 my next purchase, followed by 3 or 4 terradons, then an EotG then probably another battalion box and a slann so I can run pretty much any kind of army i like except carno or mass terradons. This is a long term plan though, not the next month or something lol. No money ^^ Golly I do start replies with 'Yeah' a lot, don't I?
Revised list: -Scar Veteran - 145 CO, LA BBoC, Ench. Shield -Scar Veteran BSB - 169 GW, Sh Hide of the Cold Ones -14 Saurus Warriors - 186 Spears, Musician, Standard -11 Skinks + Kroxigor - 110 -10 Temple Guard 181 Musician, Standard -5 Saurus Cold One Cavalry Musician, Standard Woo S7 T6 BSB, but 2 stupid units (that pass ~90% of the time) means that I can expect one test failure in 6 turns, though both units have beefy characters and should be able to take a charge by most things in 1k as long as not flanked.
