I have never faced them. However, what do you plan on taking? I think something fast would be best to deal with the units that run around shooting you. I would say CoC or skirmishers with javelins. You could also go with skrox so that you have fast units that may be able to catch them.

For the big trees, chameleons for that. A salamander or 4 would be good too.

Terradons are great, there will almost always be a central wood you can Vanguard into and have -2 to be hit. Drop Rocks is gold on Glade Guard.

Generally there will be a big unit of Treekin and/or a Treeman designed as a tarpit. If you have the Banner of Eternal Flame or Burning Blade of Chotec you are golden. Otherwise poison is your best option.

Anything you see that isn't a Treekin, Treeman or a Dryad (in a wood) is worthless in combat, churn them up. No point in being afraid of his S4 short ranged shooting, you have to run interference with your skirmishers and rush him.

never understood why ppl have problems with the wood elves. other then the ogres that army list is the most craptastic. An army of skirmishers that have no armor save and S3 T3 except for a few units. shrug. close and kill them with cavalry and saurus.

Even in 7th edition I have watched a few units of Empire Knights obliterate entire WE armies. the fancy little dancing does not substitute for good AS and ranks. In 8th they are even worse.

their core: except Dryads are S3 T3 no rank bonus. Just close and kill them. dryads S4 T4 2 A NO ARMOR save. again Saurus save on 5+ and will decimate the unit.

salamanders, well any treemen, wandering willow or flaming fir tree will run like hell from them.

Wardancers, run heavy cavalry into them. 2+ as St4 3 attacks will eat that unit, even going last.

Eternal guard. shrug. saurus out class them.

they are not even as tough as HE due to the lack of any real rank and file units. they are just as squishy with S3 T3 and usually no AS no ranks.

WE ... well in 8th they are crap.

what exactly is giving you issues? a particular unit? There really is not much in the WE army that the LM should not be able to engage and destroy fairly easy unless they are rolling up your flanks. That is not an issue with the the army but tactical errors.

Field Slann with life ( Awakening the woods will PUNISH THEM if they are standing in trees)
again Cold ones are good ! just charge em in,

Templeguard unit you can buff with banners to be hard to hit and with a EoTG with the 5+ ward save against ranged it should be no problem :)

The problem I faced is actualy geting into close combat, my oponent was runing a comlete shooting and combat avoidance list. Also against wood elves the woods isn't a safe place to hide either.

Ps. whos said Ogres where a soft army probaly hasn't played against them lately.

In 7th the Wood Elves were pretty darn to catch, let alone beat. Also, their cavalry used to break ranks which made their wardancers and dryads pretty nasty.

    Nowadays though...they don't :)
Dryads will eat your support troops alive, but get eaten by your heavies.
Terradons are absolute beasts vs WE. They can target anything they want, and fly anywhere they want. A big nuisance and a possible threat all around the board.
Chameleons are always good, just keep them out of CC as always. Harder to do against de woodies, but run!
Salamanders are also great, no partials help to flame anything that burns (like: trees!).
Saurii are good. They can pretty much match and most of the time beat anything the wood elves can throw at them. Only they will be chasing ghosts a lot of the time. Try to force the issue or funnel their troops into your spears! (or HW+S).

Try to stay out of the woods with your support troops. Your blocks can handle some beating, but your skinks most certainly cannot.
They have spells to deal damage to units in woods, and can move the woods themselves. Remember this when you are about to make a glorious cavalry charge...

They have good defensive magic, but our Slann should overpower them.

All in all, I think you should be able to beat them (most of the time).

    Good luck!
