Greetings all. I'm a new WHF player and picked the lizards to field because they were reported as one of the stronger armies and rocked with magic.

    Welcome!

Lizardmen by most accounts have the most powerful non-special character wizards in the game since we can use all eight lores in the main book and have a variety of handy magical items and abilities to further dominate the magic phase. A case can be made for High Elves having as good a magic phase as us. They have nine lores to choose from instead of eight and have more magical items to choose from variety wise. I would say our best magical items are better than the High Elves best but the High Elves mediocre items are better than our mediocre items.

Saurus provide a strong tough infanty backbone of Core to our army that outclasses most other armies ona point for point basis except perhaps dwarfs, warriors of Chaos (who are getting a new book soon and likely to be nerfed), and probably one or two other armies I'm missing.

No army really has everything in it (Empire comes close with lots of options and special rules but they are hampered by low base combat statlines). Lizardmen have MOST things though. Almost everything in the mainbook can be found in our army except for chariots, artillery, and long-ranged infantry based shooting. We have dinosaurs that have special abilities that make them powerful war machines and chariots in all but name. We don't have anything that can fill in for the missing long-range shooting but our short range shooting is quite potent, most of it poisonous and from very mobile skink units. Another thing we lack is high Weapon Skill units, but magic can be used to overcome that shortcoming fairly easily.

One nice thing about Lizardmen is that there are multiple ways to make a competitive army. Some armies are quite powerful but they are biased towards a single build with only slight variations.
