Our local GW shop recently began a WHFB escalation league, starting at 600 points and adding 600 points every 2 weeks until we reach 3000 points. New to WHFB, I picked Lizardmen because they looked fun to paint and I enjoyed the unit choices. I decided to try a Skink list and the first 4 weeks have been…educational. I’m now working on my 1800 point list and I’ve come to ask some more experienced players for advice. *Note: If you made an in-store purchase for the league, you get an extra 50 points for your army. This is why my point totals are over. I started with my 3000 point list and worked backwards, as each unit used must carry over to the next level’s list. For my 600 point list I wanted to try a variety of units to get a feel for them, so I had the following: 2 Salamanders 3 Terradons 5 Chameleon Skinks 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 1 Skink Priest, lvl 2, Dispell Scroll, Ruby Ring of Ruin My first matchup was actually another Lizardmen list using a block of Saurus and 2 Bastiladons. I had an issue with the bastiladons because of the 2+ armor save. It was a tower control game and the game ended with 2 Saurus holding out in the tower, giving him the win. I wasn’t impressed with the Terradons, but everything else did well enough. As a result I won’t be adding more, but I’m also stuck with what I have due to the rules. My 1200 point army was: 2 Salamanders 3 Terradons, fire leech bolas 1 Stegadon, Sharpened Horns, Unstoppable Stampede 5 Chameleon Skinks 5 Chameleon Skinks 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 10 Skink Skirmishers 1 Skink Priest, lvl 2, Dispell Scroll, Ruby Ring of Ruin 1 Skink Priest, lvl 2, Cube of Darkness I fought a pure Khorne demon army, which means I dominated magic. I ran my priests with 1 using Heavens and the other Beasts. I had some nice buffs and the ruby ring let me toss out an easy Fireball. My Stegadon died first turn to a solid skull cannon shot and a lucky roll on the warp table caused one of my salamanders to bite it. The rest of the turn was me dancing around with my skinks, peppering them with spears, blowpipe shots and magic. I did OK, he didn’t make it to melee until turn 3. We ended up at a draw - if I’d killed 3 more bloodletters I would have had the win. Now I’m trying to come up with my 1800 point list and I’m not sure where to go. Is Slann realistic at 1800, or should I wait until 2400? If I go Slann, should I stick him in a skink bunker? If so, skirmishers or cohort? If I don’t go Slann, should I run with another Stegadon (Ancient maybe?) and throw in a Scar Vet cowboy on a cold one? (I’ve already made a skink scar vet cowboy using the Dark Elves’ Cold One model and a remodeled Skink). Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
