Give the Slann the War Banner for ultimate awesomeness. Between Ethereal and a 2+ ward against fire, he's already very hard to kill. Giving him the war banner gives him a static +2 combat res, which makes him much slower to crumble and does all kinds of other awesome things. For example, he can now charge into a horde of trolls and hold the unit up the entire game. If they lost a couple of trolls to shooting and magic, he'll win every combat by 1 and eventually kill the entire unit. He can also disable steam tanks, take down all sorts of monsters, or charge into an ongoing combat to provide +3 combat res. (I love my battle slann.)
Wouldn't Fencer Blades be a good option for a battle Slann too? 2 Attacks that acutally hit and be harder to get hit himself?
