I will be joining an upcoming league sorta thing. the rules are that there are no points, and the players have to complete objectives. The objectives' difficulties will be proportionate to the army size. so a humongous army could have a very difficult task like completely wipe out the enemy in 2 turns of contact. I have no idea. the objectives are not up yet. so once again, to recap, no rules. and the army lists have to be formed with the following: 1 Hero 1 Core 1 Core/Special/Rare 1 Any Other Unit 1 additional Hero for each Core/Special/Rare Regiment chosen [Infantry, Cavalry, Skirmishers, Cavalry, Monstrous Infantry, Monstrous Cavalry, Skeleton Chariots Regiments and the such. Not applicable to War Machines, and other singular chariots or Monsters.] So heres what I came up with. When I did points calculation I got the shock of my life hahaha. scar vet, enchanted shield, light armour, biting blade, dawnstone (140) 36 Saurus, musician, standard, champion (426) 7 Saurus Cavalry, Champion, musician, standard, Sun standard of chotec (335) scar vet, light armour, shield, cold one, obsidian blade (163) Slann, life, higher state, rumination, unfathomable, focus of mastery, divine plaque, warbanner (480) (1574) The plan is to stick the slann with the block of saurus, which will make them nigh invincible anyway with a 4++ against shooting and 3++ in CC. not accounting for the slann's spells yet. I'm planning on running him with lore of life. The first scar vet will go here too. the second scar vet will go with the saurus cav who will charge anything else. I'm predicting horde heavy opponents though there might be some skirmisher based ones. I have also not played a single game of WHFB in like what.. 5 years? so trying to keep it simple first. to me this list looks extremely brutal to hordes and the slann can take care of the skirmishers. C&C please!!! edit: the reason for the cav as well is that there is a special rule for cav which is: Cavalry, Monstrous Cavalry gain Ambush. edit 2: I just remembered that the slann "guardians" rule only goes to TG. how should I place the slann in the saurus group in this case? is this even a good idea in the first place? would he be able to cast spells in CC? thanks!
To solve that, give the slann the crown of command. Then his unit becomes stubborn as well. A saurus unit will be almost as good as TG in this regard. He will go in the first rank unless you have enough characters/command models to push him to the second rank. He can still cast spells from that ranks as well.
Magic missles cannot be cast out of melee, and all other types of spells except vortexes require line of sight, so he willl be able to cast on units that he can see (enemies may block LOS), and you cannot cast direct damage into melee but it can be cast out of melee onto other units not involved. So yes he can cast, just be aware of LOS and legal targets.
With that last faq, he could actually cast the burning head spell into the unit he is in combat wtih!
If the slaan has life, the only spells that would be limited with respect to casting are the two direct damage spells, dwellers and awakening wood. For these two, the only limitations are that the target must be unengaged and within the forward arc of the caster. The slaan being in combat does not impact his casting at all when using the lore of life.
then all will go as planned! thanks! they will now know the fury of T8 saurus with shield of thorns and can regrow muahahah
