I posted two batreps not so long ago, 2400 pts my lizards vs HE.

I was lucky and won both times.

After the second report I was asked about the HE, I made some suggestions and have spoken to my oppo about them.

We have agreed to swap forces (hopefully I won't be tainted, but I know I'll have to have a very hot shower and scrub with a brillo pad afterwards :D ;) )

I wondered if anyone had any experience of fighting against lizards using HE.

The army that I'll be using will broadly be the following:
    3 x 10 archers
    2 eagles
    c24 swordmasters
c20 White Lions (inc BSB + Lvl 4 mage - High)
    Frost phoenix
    2 bolt throwers
30 spearmen (inc lvl 2 mage - Light)

The army I'll be facing is that I used:

lvl 2 skink priest, 2 units of 10 skirmishers, 25 saurus, 25 TG/Slann bunker, 2 sallies plus snacks, a steg, a Skrox unit (16+2), 2 scar vets on cold ones, each with Great Weapon. One with Armour of Destiny, other has the steg helm.
My view is that I want to be rid of the two sallies in my army list asap, followed by the skinks given their poison.

While the HE archery isn't very strong (S3 I believe) I would use these to get rid of skinks. Once they are gone the eagles will have (hopefully) a better time of it being a nuisance of themselves. Trouble is getting rid of skinks will have to be done quickly in order for the eagles to be effective as a redirector.

In my two previous battles against this chap, he's used an item to ambush with the spearmen. It has done nothing other than force me to turn a unit of saurus around and then brutalise the HE spearmen! nom nom nom :meh:

I won't try that but use them to support the swordmasters/white lions who are obviously the main combat blocks

Magic - Hope to unforge the scar vets. Might have a hard time of it though given the slann has the 3 channeling dice on 5+ combo. and can ignore first failed dispel.

Lastly try to be aggressive with the swordmasters and white lions.

No cavalry to dance around with so the above is what the HE list is. Any other suggestions?

The more I think about this the less I like it! :D

Why light mage? Most spells doesn't really help the elves. isn't metal, beast, shadow, death better?

magic missile or close combat the skinks.
Bows will most likely be 5+ to hit, 3+ to wound and 5+ armour. That's about 7 arrows/wound. 20 archers should have a good chance to score 3 wounds to cause panic if they are outside the slann Inspiring presence

I would target the skrox instead. that's 4/18, or 4,5 arrows /wound. and those wounds actually matters if you face them in cc. Or the saurus, that's 12 arrows/wound. The TG is difficult to shift with regular arrows.

A good idea is to focus fire, even a few saurus or TG can give the archers a problem, especially with buff/debuff.

Swordsmasters against saurus warriors. 6 wide with champ they'll remove about 9 saurus, depending on whether or not they have sword. After that they're quite crippled. White lions + frost phoenix the temple guards will make it quite easy for you. Shoot some arrows into the skrox unit and have your spearman take care of it.

    The hard part?
Scar vets will fvck you up. Slann will probably be superior. Sallies wil roast your blocks, especially because elfs are 20mm (more models hit by template). DO NOT let them hit you. Especially not the swordsmasters.
Be careful with your eagles. Poison will take care of them.

I'd say it's a fair match-up. He rellies on the above mentioned, but if you can do something about that your infantry will beat his.

Dunno if the bolt throwers can take care of the steg. If not watch out. Not sure how the frost chicken's aura work on impact hit. Regardless, even at S5 it can put a couple of wounds on it just on impact hits, if upgraded.

The scar vets are the Swiss army knife. They can take out your eagles if you let them, kill bolt throwers, flank your blocks when engaged and hold up the bird.

I have no proper answer how to stop them other than hoping that you can inforge them. Fortunately though they're only WS5 and your elites are WS5/6.

If you get into combat with white lions against guards without the birds DON'T let him buff himself. He'll out grind you and you risk losing everything.
