Non winner and no loser -_-" but first things first: my purpose was to go in CC with Saurus and TG asap, and to kill enemy characters with my death slann, chamo, salamander and skirmisher to redirect and haunt his vanguard. He use 2 shadow mage (one of 4th level with book and one of 2nd level), phenix, 4 eagles, pikemen, archers, swordmaster, prince. Shooting phases quite poor (bad roll of dices or very few units with range weapons), magic phase quite exciting: to report an entire unit of Saurus was obliterated by irresistible shadow pit cast by 4th level wizard (double 5 T-T) killed by irresistible bjurna's destiny in the end (in addiction my slann miscast so I could make explode the 2nd level wizard with the cupped hands.......REVENGE!!!). CC phase a bit harder than i thought: they hit me very often (even if wounding rarely), but I can't hit them enough to break them, to report: I hate phenix guard and theyr ward save 4+ (hard to kill, block my Saurus in CC to much longer....)
Sounds like a good game. Here's my two thoughts: I think Light magic may have served you better against the Elves. Initiative 10 spell will protect the saurus from shadow pit or purple sun, and many of the spells will make them better in CC. Also try Other Tricksters Shard (re-roll ward save item) carried by a character riding a stegadon or carnosaur. Crash into the phoenix guard and many more will die as you smash and stomp them.
