Hi guys, I've been back to this forum (3) different times quite a bit apart asking stupid questions wanting to start this game. I've finally bit the bullet. I went to the FLGS closest to me that stocks AoS and bought a Bastiladon. I've been a 40K player for around 10 years and have wanted to give this a go for a while, so here I am. I like the bigger Dino models, so I think despite the SC box being a better deal for models, I'm not going to pick them up right away. I'm leaning towards building a Thunderquake at the moment, and with what's been revealed so far, I think a pair of Bastiladons with Solar Engines and an Engine of the Gods will be my starting lineup. Since I'm not going to be playing right away I want to take the time to really get a good paint and basing job on my bigger boys. Will follow this up with a Slann and then look at a few boxes of Warriors and assorted characters. Thanks for being a great place to lurk. Best, Paul
Hi guys, Thanks for the kind words. I got it home and quite a few of the bits and pieces were warped, broken off, or in bad shape. Contacted GW and they're sending a 2nd one. While I can't build the first as an Ark of Sotek, GW views this as not okay and appear to be sending a 2nd one. woot! I really like the Thunderquake Starhost, at least as it sits. The models tickle my fancy so I am building that direction atm. So I've got (2) Bastiladons, will buy a Stegadon soon for an EotG and then maybe a Slann. We'll see. I'm more a hobby guy than a player, but I do play on occasion. Best, Paul
Glad you bit the bullet, my seraphon love only grows. I'd recommend skinks as well for some battleline but might be better to wait for AoS 2.0 to see where things settle.
That was the plan. Get the bigger toys I know I'm going to want (My 2nd Bastiladon arrived today as I love the Thunderquake) and I'm getting a Stegadon for an EotG next week or two. I'm leaning towards Skinks and Kroxigors personally as they've been a personal favorite for a long time.
Try hunting down a thunderbeast box if you can. 2 stegadons a carnosaur and 3 ripperdactyls if you can find it.
They are limited release though, yes? All I can find is one on Ebay. I will keep eyes peeled locally, but for now it's not going to happen. Best, Paul
Yes it was limited and the price on ebay is not a saving on buying the models separately, depending on where you live? you can find online discounts.
I'm in Chicago area, USA. So I'll bet most are snapped up, but if I see one I'll get it for sure. Would be a good box. For now I ordered just a Stegadon kit from my FLGS. I started painting Bastiladons last night, first go with my Air Brush. Was a breeze to prime and basecoat with it, but am onto brush work for now. Paul
Hi Paul, Good choice on picking an army ;P Lizards have some epic models and super detail which makes them look great on the board. A Basti is a pretty solid first choice - looks great and works well in battle...it’s pretty much a staple in most armies. One question; What colour scheme are you going for ?
I'm not fully set yet on exact color scheme tbh. Right now the Bastiladons are being done in blue tones and probably a grey carapace with some blue highlights. Standard gold on the Engine parts and not sure on the Crystal colors yet. The Seraphon themselves are probably going to be Purple bodied with dark blue scales and I'm thinking about yellow or orange heads. Something to make them stand out. I like the normal blue look but most of the people I've seen around have gone that route and I want to be unique. Stegadon will probably be green bodied, but I'm not sure wholly on that one either. Best, Paul
I do like a good purple - but I do try and stay away from too bold ;P My guys are dark green (highlighted) with red/brown scaling mostly - with exception to a few key models that I want to stand out. I’ve literally just picked up my brush to paint my Basti - I have no idea what colour I want the gem ! Lol, the Basti himself will be dark green top with orange/red details and a pale underbelly...but the crystal!??
I was thinking Xereus Purple on the skink bodies and then Genestealer Purple on their bellies and fins. Naggaroth Night on their scaly backs. Then finish them with some Yellow face paint. (Stripe or bands, something). I'd rather them be darker than brighter. We'll see. I like the super dark purple/black gems with the star patterns the most, but I don't know if I'm that good of a painter. I might go high-gloss black, or maybe red, but not sure. I've got 2 to do, so we'll see. Paul
Sounds good, I’m too scared to do face paints etc incase they end up looking like circus wannabes Well at least with two you can do one - and if you don’t like it try something new on the second, I was going to go purple, but In my head I’m thinking - it’s a massive gem that’s meant to catch the sun and blast is out, so I’m thinking brighter may be better, but don’t want to go with something that looks out of place with the rest of my army, just doing the base coats now - so I have a little time to contemplate
The darker something is, the more light it's absorbing. Black reflects almost no light, hence the thoughts on black or deep purple. And yeah, I don't want little circus clowns for sure, lol. We'll see. Paul
