So, i am up for my first tournament in march and am trying to build a list so i know what i need to paint (and maybe buy) until then.

So far my list looks like this, you can say it is a first draft:
    Lords:
Saurus Oldblood. CO, GW, light armor, Dragon helm, luckstone.
Slann. Becalming. Harmonic. Focus of Mystery. Channeling stuff

    Heroes:
Scar-vet. CO. Glittering scales, GW, Dawnstone
skink priest lvl 2, dispel scroll.

    Core:
    Saurus X35, spears, full command.
    Skink Skirmishers jav X 10
    Skink Skirmishers jav X 10
    Skink Skirmishers blowpipe X 10

    Spec:
    Cold one x6, full command.
Temple guards X 16 full command

    Rare:
    Ancient steg, sharpened horns.
    Salamander hunting packs, x2
    Salamander hunting packs x1

    This totals 2485 points.

I had a draft before this one also, where my slann had life lore instead of focus. This also meant i could gear up my old blood more. The idea is to keep my Oldblood and scar vet in my cold one unit to make them mobile and able to react to most things. After i played a HE army, and a clearly better player i felt Life did not quite do it for me, at all, so i am going to try out focus to see how that feels like.

I am aware that there is another lizard player here, he came second place last year without any Slann, choosing to run a cold one buss maxed out with Oldbloods and Scar-vet instead.

You guys think i am on to something with this list?

I find the only reason to use an old blood is to utilize his extra 50 pts. of magic items to make some fun combos, which you haven't done so he could be pretty much exactly the same as a scar vet as he stands now. That will give you some points to make someone a BSB. Practice with High magic so you get used to swapping out spells cause I used to forget about that and curse myself when I could really use that searing doom or spirit leech. Pretty solid list overall I'd say.
