This was my first 8th Edition battle with Lizards and i was against my regular opponents, WoC. It was 2.5k and due to time constraints we could only play 4 turns, we rolled the battle for the pass scenario. Whilst we get used to the new rules we're trying out various things and proxying some models whilst we decide what we like and what works. So with this in mind, this battle was magic heavy (especially the WoC) I had a Slann, EotG and a flying priest He had 2 Sorcerer lords and 3 hero sorcerer's (one of them being Festus) I chose Metal for the Slann whilst the WoC Lords had Shadow and Heavens. The 3 heroes were all Nurgle so he got every spell. Unbelievably with all this magic i had only 1 dispel dice for 3 of the four turns. EDIT: I don't know how we both missed this but we were playing the dispel dice rule completely wrong and taking the lowest dice roll as the number of dispel dice. I guess that's what practice game are for I also took 35 saurus, 3x10 skirmishers, 20 Temple guard and 9 cavalry which aslo had a scar-vet. I gave him the sigil sword so he would have I10. He had 20 warriors, 20 marauders, 10 knights, 10 marauder horses and 10 chosen The Battle As my opponent had chosen the deployment zones, i had been placed on the side with the sinister statue. Naturally it shot beams from its eyes and killed 4 skirmishers who were standing too close. As that same unit advanced they were buffed with Speed of Light thanks to a Sorcerous Portal. They rolled it again in the next magic phase which came in handy as it meant a drawn combat with the unit of marauder horsemen. I managed to cast Comet of Cassendora and placed it in between the warriors, Knights and General who had all been placed conveniently together The comet went off with two markers killing the general (who took 11 wounds), 6 knights, 5 warriors and a full unit of my skirmishers. The battle seemed to be fully in my favour and this continued when the Cold one Cavalry charged into the marauders taking 9 wounds. Unfortunately this was next to an acropolis of heroes so they remained stubborn and more importantly, in the fight. They managed to pass their unmodified Ld tests and hold up my scar-vet for 2 more rounds before being completely wiped out. The WoC then started to cast some magic of their own and this started with a cloying quagmire that took out the EoTG. I'm assuming under the new rules that the priest and the stegadon roll separately for their I tests? Even if they don't it wouldn't have mattered as i managed to roll 6 for both tests and then obvioulsy making the armour saves and saw my EoTg sink in to the ground (hate that spell) Luckily his Shadow Lord had all ready gone but the Heavens Lord managed to cast a comet of his own and took out a few saurus and also did chain lightening which took out a rank of TG before jumping into my Saurus and taking out another rank of them. As i mentioned earlier i had 1 dispel dice for most of the magic phases so most of his spells went off unhindered. As the battle had to be cut short neither my saurus or TG saw combat as his knights had been completely wiped out by magic after they had failed 2 charges. The chosen were badly deployed and spent their time trying to make it into the fray. My Cavalry however moved onto the warriors after beating the marauders, but the men of chaos stayed strong and took out 3 of the mounted saurus which meant the combat ended in a draw. The remaining cold ones including the scar vet were taken out by the comet that had also hit my big saurus block. Looking at the table at the end of turn four we decided to call it a draw, then we worked out the VP just to see and it was in fact a draw with less than 50 points difference. In the return battle next week i'm going to be trying my carnosaur, kroxigors and salamanders and the WoC are going to field Throgg, trolls and ogres.
Beautiful report Can't wait to here how the sallies go, I always use them to great success. And the comet.... I just played a game vs. Bretonnians yesterday and cast that, completely won the game for me... but again, great report.
