Editorial note: Now in the correct forum! Alrighty then! It's almost time for me to bring out the beginnings of my lizardmen host against the hated skaven, so I'd like all you a bit more senior generals to give me your opinions about it! My main philosophy: Hard blocks of saurus "anvils" augmented by skinks on the flanks. Other units to join the ranks as I make a larger force! My enemies philosophy: Slaves and clanrats, lots of flee reactions and flank charges, success through CR. Also has a hardon for warp lightning and jezzails, though I doubt he'll take the latter for this fight. My list: Hero, General: Scar-vet w/ light armor, shield of the mirrored pool and sword of battle - 140pts Core: 15x Saurus warriors w/ mu, sb and sh/hw/spears - 198pts Core: 12x Skink skirmishers w/ blowpipes - 84pts Core: 11x Skink skirmishers w/ blowpipes - 77pts Total: 499pts I'll play the scar-vet in the saurus unit and thus my foe will be in for a lovely surprise once he casts warp lightning on them. The skinks will hang around on the flanks of the warriors, wittling down his ranks with their blowpipes. My main problem is the fact that I have only one melee force, but if I outshoot his army I'll hopefully see some charges. I suppose that I could, should the need arise, run my vet out of the unit and take on a unit on his own, which he probably is quite capable of. Anyway, your opinions please people!
I wouldn't play that list against skavens, they've got so much war machines and shooting... You'd do better not using saurus and changing them for a unit of terradon riders, a salamander and the scar vet mounted on cold one; plus, the scar vet has S5, so if you use the "scimitar of the resplandecent sun" you get 2 more attacks, and skavens only have T3... (6 attacks 3+ to hit and 2+ to wound, another one 4+ and 3+ from the cold one... it's a skaven terminator!), and the scar vet is only 163 points.
I most definitely see your point, but I doubt that he'll run that many warmachines or shooty bits in his list, save for the much feared warp-lightning. There's also the fact that I do not own any terradons yet, coupled with a lack of will and means to create a scarvet on coldone, although I clearly see your point about the +2 attack scarvet, but my fear of warplightning is what made me opt for the shield of the mirrored pool and SoB instead.
