Hey all, So I'm just starting my first fantasy army, Lizardmen! I have dabbled from 40k into fantasy in the past but this time I really want to do it! Anyway onto the point I'm planning on making this a 2000 point list, that I do not want to be overly competitive but likewise I would like to win some games... So without further ado the list: Lord: Slann-BSB-Banner of Discipline-Reservoir of Eldritch Energy-Focus of Mystery-Harmonic Convergence-Becalming Cogitation-Cube of Darkness. Heroes: Skink Priest-Dispel Scroll-Level 2. Scar Vet-Light Armour-Shield-Sword of Strife. Core: 30 Saurus Warriors-Full Command. 12 Skink Skirmishers-Blowpipes. 12 Skink Skirmishers-Blowpipes. Special: 20 Temple Guard-Full Command-Banner of Swiftness. Bastiladon-Solar Engine. Rare: Ancient Stegadon-Sharpened Horns-Unstoppable Stampede. Well I hope that that is neat enough, please tell me any corrections that you feel are necessary (there are likely many as this is my first attempt at a list!) Thank you in advance, Boerwulf
Hey mate, well let me start by saying I'm no expert but I've got a few suggestions. Firstly I'd drop the priest down to lvl 1, with Focus of Mystery you're going to have plenty of spells to cast already. I would change the blowpipes for jav+shield otherwise moving and shooting + long range + multi-shot = 7+ to hit and poison ceases to work. Also javs are quick to fire and make your skinks much more durable. The Scar Vet seems a bit random, I'd give him a Cold One, a 1+ AS a Dawnstone and Greatsword and send him off to **** **** up. This means he's very mobile has a rerollable 1+ AS and can reduce a knight's AS from 2+ to 6+ . Which is good because you don't have much capable of dealing with armour. So that leaves your big dinosaurs. Well the Bastiladon is cool and good value for points but the +1 initiative probably isn't very useful, unless you have a plan to make it so and the beam is cool but you've already got a tonne of magic. So I think you'd be better off with something else. Which then means your Stegadon is your only big target and having just 1 big target I don't like because if they've brought cannons, it gives them something to shoot at. So I'd either replace the Bastiladon with another big monster of some sort, or lose them both. Losing them both would free up a lot of points for some cool shizzle. I think 2 units of 1 Salamanders + extra handler would be very useful for mashing Skaven/Empire/Orcs/VC. You could also throw in some Chameleon Skinks/Terradons/Rippers for hunting squishies/warmachines/flanking. If you do wanna keep the big Dinos, maybe take an Ancient Steg as a rare choice and take a second one with an Engine of the Gods for your priest? I'd also make sure that against any heavily armoured races like WoC/Bretonnians you use your High Magic lore attribute to swap a spell for a lore of metal spell and if you get something non-useful take the sig spell and start melting shizzle. ALSO! Last but not least, if you want to take the second steg instead of the Bastiladon and don't have enough points. I'd drop some of the disciplines off your Slann. However, if you don't want to do that, make sure you pick him up a Channelling Staff to combo with Harmonic Convergence. So your 3 channel dice now work on 5s instead of 6s. Just some suggestions, I'm a bit of a nub myself so someone more experienced might be able to give you better advice or tell you that my advice is all shit, but maybe this will give you a few ideas.
Hey thank you for the reply. Firstly I'd like to say that my main opponents will be WoC and High Elves so the metal lore would make sense against WoC I guess. Also I agree with the Channelling Staff for the Slann (never saw it before lol). I happen to really like the Bastiladon model so keeping it would be nice, maybe if I drop the skink to lvl 1 then I could try to bait a dispel with it? And I planned on using the initiative boost on the TG to make them initiative 3 however the more I think about it WoC and Elves would outdo that anyway Other than maybe a hellcannon their shouldn't be too much cannon problems right? So I might drop the bastiladon and take a couple of salamanders (could be a terrible idea and most likely is). I guess the scar vet could redirect those (from what I understand powerful) Chaos Knights. New list: Lord: Slann-BSB-Discipline Banner-Reservoir of Eldritch Energy-Focus of Mystery-Harmonic Convergence-Becalming Cogitation-Cube of Darkness-Channelling Staff. Heroes: Skink Priest-Dispel Scroll. Scar Vet-Light Armour-Ancient Stegadon Helm of Itza-Great Weapon-Cold One. Core: 30 Saurus Warriors-Musician-Banner Bearer. 12 Skinks-Javelins and Shields. 12 Skinks-Javelins and Shields. Special: 20 Temple Guard-Musician-Standard Bearer-Banner of Swiftness. Rare: Ancient Stegadon-Sharpened Horns-Unstoppable Stampede. Salamander Hunting Pack-Extra Handler. Salamander Hunting Pack-Extra Handler. Total:2000 2000 points bang on, not bad if you ask me This doesn't have to be perfect as my friends who are starting are new to fantasy as well, however if I know them they'll try hard to do well as well. I hope I can give them a run for their money Anyway constructive criticism welcome. Regards, Boerwulf
YeeeEeEEaaahhHhH that's more like it fo'sho fo'shooooo dawg. Yeah artillery shouldn't be too much of an issue vs HE and WoC. My biggest worries would be Phoenix Guard/White Lions and uhh Chaos Warriors!!11 >.< Sallies will toast White Lions though if you can get them in range. Maybe first turn Walk Between Worlds a Sally into range and fry his blocks before he has a chance to shoot you to pieces. Both armies are very point heavy so more units of Skinks might be handy to generally get in the way. Rippers might be nice too for flank charges against his small units. If he's only 3-4 deep he's going to get very few attacks at you before getting minced.... Stegadons should be pretty good vs WoC too I think... Or a Razor banner on your Sauruseseses. But in my humble opinion, things are looking pretty sexy now. Merry Christmas
Your Slann can't have both the Cube and the channeling staff, same categorie. Without the staff I find Harmonic Convergence not really worth it's points so you could drop that for Soul of Stone. SoS for me is an auto include when taking High magic because of the reather high casting values of some of the spells. For example I like to 6 dice convocation on my first turn while my Slann sits behind his TG (NOT IN IT) on his elite infantry block and than swap it out for some buff/hex spell. The Scarvet is fine but a 1+ rerollable gives him more durability than the T6. Banner of swiftness is not really worth it IMO. A Razor Standart has much more use against both WoC and HE. You have Walk between Worlds and Hand of Glory if you really feel the need to move your TG faster. If your missing points you can drop the unstoppable stampede. That 1A on the charge is not really gonna cut it. Sharpened Horns is much more important so don't ever drop these! Otherwise good and solid list!
Sorrowquin offers solid advice. My only comment is I'm not as big a proponent of Soul of Stone, but to each his own.
Agreed. Sos doesnt provide nearly the miscast protection you need for the amount of points it costs. I prefer to run my slanns cheap. Never more than 3 disciplines (if that) and always a channeling staff/bsb and thats it. Id run harmonic convergence and channeling staff, its amazing. Loremaster of high, bsb, harmonic convergence and channeling staff is an amazing slann. I find the all signature loremaster to be arguably more effective if youre running TG. Two dice signatures all day safely in a beefy TG bunker Id also drop unstoppable stampede if you can find a place to spend the points. As already mentioned, its not great
