Alright! So I just received my first Lizardmen/Seraphon models, and I'd love to get some advice on how best to use them. I say received because I got one scar-vet on a carnosaur with a square base from a friend, and got the rest of them already painted off of Ebay. (I have my Start Collecting box that I've started work on, but I just couldn't pass up on the great deal I got for these already finished models!) But anyway, here's what I have currently: 1 Oldblood on Carnosaur. 1 Troglodon 1 Scar-vet on Carnosaur. (square base) 1 Scar-vet on Cold One. 12 Saurus Warriors with spears. 2 Skink Starpriests. 1 Skink Priest. (from start collecting box) 5 Chameleon Skinks. 3 Ripperdactyls with blot toad. Within a month or two I should have the start collecting box done, so that's one more Oldblood on Carnosaur, 8 Saurus Knights, 12 more Saurus w/spears, and one more Skink Priest. After I finish with the Start Collecting box, I do plan on getting a Slann and then working on trying to get some Bastiladons, Stegadons, Razordons and skinks. But that's a long way off. So any advice on how best to use what I have, with maybe what I will have in the near future? I know that I'd have the ability to run the Gul'rok's Starhost that comes with the starter box, but I don't think I have enough of any other units to run any of the main Starhosts. Let me know what you think!
Perhaps something along the lines of this list until you get a Slann and some Razordons: Allegiance: Seraphon -Mortal Realm: Ulgu Leaders Skink Starpriest (80) - General - Trait: Master of Star Rituals - Spell: Celestial Apotheosis Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur (240) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (240) - War Spear - Artefact: Sword of Judgement Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (80) - Lances 20 x Saurus Warriors (180) - Clubs Units 3 x Ripperdactyl Riders (140) Total: 960 / 1000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 200 Wounds: 67
Pretty close to 1000 points, so it definitely sounds like it could be useful, especially in the starter games I'll be joining. Just curious, though, but did you mean a Skink Priest or a Starpriest? Because I was reading the warscrolls and it didn't look like the regular priest had spells, and the starpriest didn't have the Celestial Rites ability that that trait goes with.
If you take the command trait: Master of Star Rituals than the Skink Starpriest (the wizard) can use the prayer from the Skink Priest warscroll.
Nice Thanks for the advice! I have a local game store that often hosts Warhammer games, so hopefully I will be able to post my first battle report soon!
So I just found out that one of my local gaming/comic shops still does Warhammer events, but hasn't had any since August and there are none scheduled right now, only Magic: The Gathering games. Wish me luck trying to get some more game nights set up!
Update: So I've now joined my game store's wargaming group and am actively preparing to set up my first engagement! I have also completed more of my collection. Here's what I have now: 1 Slann Starmaster. 2 Oldblood on Carnosaur. 2 Troglodon. 1 Stegadon with skystreak bow. 1 Scar-vet on Carnosaur. (square base) 1 Scar-vet on Cold One. 8 Saurus Knights with spears. 24 Saurus Warriors with spears. 2 Skink Starpriests. 1 Skink Priest. (from start collecting box) 5 Chameleon Skinks. 3 Ripperdactyls with blot toad. Any ideas/strategies on a good 1000-1500 point list with this army? Also, it sounds like some of the armies I'm likely to encounter are Stormcast, Ironjawz, Tzeentch, possibly other destruction armies. *Edit* I just learned that Slaanesh will probably be on the field as well, and I don't have any bastiladons or razordons yet Is there anything I can do against them with my current army?
Specifically: To be perfectly blunt you're F*CKED in all capitols against even a bad Slaanesh player with your available models. Get 3 boxes of skinks. Generally: change one of those old one on carnos to a second Scarvet on carno (you really don't need two OB's) You need to flesh out full units of what you have as well. Knights come in sets of 5, so 8 will cost you the same points as 10, get 2 more to finish the unit. 24 Saurus warriors is the same, they come in units of 10 so get 6 more to finish the unit (really get 16 more and field a max size of 40 since they are spears) that stegadon is fine, but you are prolly better off with an engine of the gods, if you can convert it back or magnetize the parts.
Lol! That's what I thought. I hope to have 24 skinks finished by the end of this month, so that at least leaves me with 20. I wish that the boxes just had the full unit sizes instead of leaving you with extra models. And the Stegadon and second Oldblood I got off Ebay (for pretty cheap!), so there's no extra parts or the means to magnetize or convert them. I definitely want to get more knights in the future to be able to run a Firelance Starhost.
That looks really neat, cool idea! I'm still not good at all at painting, but I'm getting ok at actually building the models. Will probably use some of those extra skinks as practice.
Look in to GW contrast paint.. for models like skinks or lizards that don't have a lot of flat surfaces.. they work awesome.
those box sizes are from WHFB sizes if I recall correctly. they haven't given us any new kits since AOS released (I came to AoS in early 2017 so I could be wrong.)
That makes sense. I know they haven't actually updated any of the lizardmen kits for age of Sigmar, just changed the packaging. Good suggestion though about the contrast paints. I've watched several videos on them and it does appear to be relatively easy to work with and the results come out looking pretty good.
