Alright guys, it's Christmas in July apparently as I got in a game a few weeks earlier than I thought I would. I got to play against a friend of mine who is in much the same boat - not new to WH, but new to his army. This was only his 2nd game with the Brets and my first with my LM. The lists were (roughly): Slann w/ BSB, War Banner, Cupped Hands, Focused Rumination, Focus of Mystery, 2 Dispell Scrolls 16 Temple Guard w/ Full command EotG Level 2 Priest w/ Scroll + Diadem 20 Saurus w/ Spears, Musician, Standard 20 Saurus w/ Spears, Musician, Standard 10 Blowpipe Skinks 10 Blowpipe Skinks 10 Blowpipe Skinks 3 Terradons Ancient Stegadon His list: 2x9-man Errant Lances 6 man Grail Lance 6 man Questing Lance 10 Skirmishing bowmen Trebuchet 3 Pegasus Knights 2x9 man KotR lances, each had a lvl 1 Damsel with some scrolls in it, one had a Chalice that kept generating Dispell dice, and each had a knight hero - one was a BSB with Warbanner and a virtue that gave +1 combat res, the other was a really killy Lord Basically I miscalculated his charge distancs, forgetting Bret Horses still get their full Mv, and suffered some early charges first turn, but held across the line except skinks. His Lord failed a fear check and stayed in his DZ leaving the rest of his lances doing combat alone. I basically holed up in the center of the board and between the Drain Life spell and the EotG pulsed his lances into oblivion. I sniped a few knight champions with Steal Soul, and the Slann had 7 wounds at one point. The archers and Trebuchets largely did nothing, while my skinks largely did nothing in return. His armor saves were terrible but his ward saves were on fire, while my rolls were overall quite average. I loved the tons of firepower in Lore of Death, and got a lot of use out of Walking Death as well for keeping his lances dumbfounded a few crucial times. His Grail knights got seriously punked due to heavy firepower and run over by my Saurus units. The big fight of the match was between his Lord lance and my TG/Slann. His Lord was using the Silver Lance and Guilded Cuirass - all attacks autohit AND he rerolls ones. He was murder for my TG numbers, single-handedly killing 4 in the charge. Thanks to Stubborn, Cold Blooded, and the BSB though they were essentially unmovable, just as the Old Ones intended. In the end I mopped up most of his other, weaker units through poison and deadly pulses, as well as good-old Saurus elbow grease. By the finale, there were only 3 TG protecting the Slann, and even though the Lord was a nuisance, they accounted for a number of kills themselves. I was sold on the TG before, but I love them even more now. In my opinion the BSB Slann and TG combo are as close to unbreakable as you can get without actually being unbreakable. Their steadfast defence allowed me to mop up his other units and then off his Lord lance with flank charges. When we tallied up the points it was close at first, but after all the banners I had captured and having big points units like the EotG and Slann still alive meant it was a massacre. Thanks for all the help in getting my list ready guys. Hopefully next time a working camera will be in the room and I can give you guys a better report. For the Old Ones!
Hey, if you include the skink crews and priest on my two Stegs, as well as the Terradons, I've got 43 in my list! The Terradons were a tremendous help. Their rock drop sadly did little to the BSB KotR lance, but they later got a rear charge and their poison just kept racking up wounds.
TRY 130! FOR THE GREAT SERPENT GOD STOEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAMO-SKINK *sigh* i'm obsessed.
