    Hey,

After having alot of fun with my 500pts list, i'm in the process of expanding to a 2250pts list. I'm not a fan of the Slann model but I do like the Lord Kroak model so my General will be based around a Relic Priest. Anyway here goes, would appreciate any feedback, thanks!

    Characters:
Kro-Hua -- Relic Priest of Tlax
    -Slann
    -Focus of Mystery
    -Focused Rumination
    -Higher State of Consiousness
    -Unfathomable Presence
    -2 Dispel Scrolls
    -Cupped Hands

    Snu-Tze
    Lv2 Skink Priest
    -EoTG
    -War Drums
    -Plaque of Tepok

    Core:
    2x18 Saurus Warriors
    -Spears and Shields
    -Musician

    4x10 Skink Skirmishers

    Special:
    2x3Terradon Riders

    6 Chameleon Skinks

    Rare:
    2 Razordons
    -Extra Handlers

    2 Salamanders
    -Extra Handlers

    Total: 2251pts

So my plan is to have the Engine central flanked by the saurus. They in turn are flank protected by the Sallies and Razors. The saurus are screened by 2 units of Skinks. The Terradons and remaining skinks take the flanks. The Chamo skinks go after WM and lone mages.

The Slann will probably go solo and should be protected by MR3, the EoTG and he can only be hit by magic attacks so whoever goes after him will hopefully by magiced, shot to death before they get to him.

    Any C+C appreciated, thankyou!

Looks very solid over all but there are a few things I would change.

The Slann: Magic resistance isnt really nescessary, few spells is any real threat to him and if you are afraid of getting zapped by spells then 1: get a skink cohort bunker, it provides incredibly cheap protection against ranged attacks which is very useful against dwarven artillery (2 magical BTs or cannons can quickly do some damage to a lone slann) and other undispellable attacks, 2: becamling cogitation is often going to be more efficient as you have a ton of DDs and scrolls so the only spell you are gonna be forced to let throught are IF's which can be stopped by Cogitation. Also get bane head, its absolutly mandatory on a Slann.

Im also not a fan of razordons, I much rather play 2x1 sallies as they are pretty vurnarable against shooting. They don't get any -1 to hit from shooting protection like most skirmishers and when they cost 160 pts each they become a pretty good target for shooting.

Your list is fairly combat oriented with its two big blocks of Saurus Warriors, so a BSB would be a tremendous help. Saurus are amazingly reliable anvils despite lack of stubborn or unbreakable rules. They have good T, good save and dish out some serious pain back. If you are in range of a BSB and general you have a ~60% chance to hold even if you loose by 5 and get to roll on a LD value of 4 (and with a static ress of 3-4 only death stars will to that much damage), while they have a mere 35% chance to hold without the BSB. Scar vets also have an amazing statline and boosts a units combat potential by a lot, but if you can't find the pts for it then at least up your slann to a BSB, its dirt cheap.

Thankyou for the reply erians. Have taken onboard what you mentioned, however, after watching a Slann be almost completely shut down by Ring of Hotek the other day, also magic has always been abit too hit and miss with me. So I've decided a more CC list is suitable for me (also really want to use a Carnosaur!)

    I've tried to go for a balanced take on allcomers type of list;

    Characters:
    Saurus Oldblood
    -Burning Blade of Chotec
    -Enchanted Shield
    -Glyph Necklace
    -Bane Head
    -Carnosaur

    Scar-Vet
    -BSB
    -Sword of the Hornet
    -Light Armour
    -Shield
    -Cold One
    -Talismen of Protection

    Lv1 Skink Priest
    -Dispel Scroll
-Diadem of Power or 2nd Dispel Scroll - (Not sure which would be better)

    Core:
    18 Saurus Warriors
    -Spears and Shields
    -Musician

    18 Saurus Warriors
    -Spears and Shields
    -Musician

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    Special:

    Stegadon

    3 Terradon Riders

    3 Terradon Riders

    5 Cold One Cavalry
    -Standard Bearer
    -Warbanner

    Rare:
    Salamander
    -Extra Handler

    Salamander
    -Extra Handler

    Total: 2250pts
    PD:3
    DD3-5
    1 Dispel Scroll

So the lay out would be roughly this; Stegadon in the centre flanked by the Saurus. The Saurus are each flanked by a Salamander and each unit is screened by a unit of Skirmishers. On one flank the COC are screended by skirmishers and supported by Terradons. The other flank is the same but taken by the Carnosaur screened by the remaining Skirmishers and supported by the other unit of Terradons.

    So what do you think?

    Have played about with the list again. Have decided while the Carnosaur is a cool model its just too much of a investment in points so the new and improved (hopefully) version is this;

    Characters:
    Scar-Vet
    -Burning Blade of Chotec
    -Light Armour
    -Shield
    -Cold One
    -Glyph Necklace

    Scar-Vet
    -BSB
    -Sword of the Hornet
    -Light Armour
    -Shield
    -Cold One
    -Talismen of Protection

    Lv1 Skink Priest
    -Dispel Scroll
    -Diadem of Power
    -EotG

    Lv1 Skink Priest
    -Dispel Scroll

    Core:
    18 Saurus Warriors
    -Spears and Shields
    -Musician

    18 Saurus Warriors
    -Spears and Shields
    -Musician

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    Special:

    3 Terradon Riders

    3 Terradon Riders

5 Cold One Cavalry - General here

5 Cold One Cavalry - BSB here

    Rare:
    Salamander
    -Extra Handler

    Salamander
    -Extra Handler

    Total: 2250pts
    PD: 5
    DD: 4-6
    2 Dispel Scrolls

Again flanks taken by COC and Terradons. Centre by Saurus, EotG and Salamanders. Skinks skirmish and shield the COC and Saurus.

I think the list is quite balanced, it has a fair bit of shooting, good defensive magic, 4 units capable in CC, 1 terror and 4 fear causing units, 2 fast moving units, 4 good skirmishing units, good armour and ward save on the 2 important characters. Magic offense is weak unless it encounters a scroll caddy then a few spells may get through. Also have 3 different ways of negating regen - uber important with the number of hydra's, Abombinations and regen armour availible.

The weaknesses though are 2 stupidity tests per turn - mitigated somewhat by the Cold-blooded rule. Having no champions in the COC units maybe a weakness but I cant find the points for them! :)

So what do you think? Any areas for improvement?

No comments at all? Either its very good or very bad....I'm guessing its the latter of the two. I really would appreciate some feedback before I part with the cash to buy the models, thankyou.

Looks pretty solid, with a few exceptions. The foot skink is pretty pointless, your paying a lot of pts for 1 DD and 1 Scroll, either skip him or take 2 scrolls. Upgrade your engine priest to lvl 2 and you'll get 6 DDs and 1 scroll, which should be enought. Also gives you the option to 4 dice a spell per turn with the priest against armies with no magic offense (you'll be surprised how many spells that gets throught due to IF, misdispel and failed dispels).

You want a standard on the saurus, no reason not to take it on such big units. If you want an MSU style VP denial army then 3x12 spear saurus with Mu is a much better option. Personally I prefer 12 skinks rather than 10 skinks as they shoot better obviously (20% more poison hits) but you also utilize all models you get in a box, but only if you have the pts for it. Im also pretty unsure about 2 untis of CoC, they're pretty expensive and putting a General and BSB in each unit make them worth close to 500 pts each for a 6 wound unit, sticking the Scar vets in saurus blocks is often more effective transfers immunity to fear, adds hit power, allows you to have the BSB in the center of the army). CoC are best used as Flank troops, which means that both General and BSB will be away from the units that really needs the LD and rerolls. Sword of Hornet is also much better with Saurus that rarely gets to charge, unlike CoC.

This list contains a lot of very useful units, and you won't be wasting any money by buying them. Skinks and Saurus are used in all armies, 2x3 Terradons are extremly useful in all lists, at least 1 unit of CoC offers a lot of tactical flexibility and speed to any list and Scar Vets & Stegs are present in almost every competative list, so you even tho you will change your list as you play more and more (everybody does, its all about finding what units fits your play style) but you will hardly look back and think "aw man, shouldn't have bought that!".

3 dispel dice (+2 if you use diadem every turn) is scary to me at this point level. Our Slann is really too good not to take as the Lord choice, but that's your call! Playtest it and see how you do during the enemy's magic phase. Count the points that your carnosaur Lord kills each game and see if he makes back his point value. Remember to factor in the points you lose to magic in that equation as well. Then make a decision for future games!

Skinker - Thankyou for the reply, I'm sure your right the Slann is a better choice overall but for me I just prefer the Carnosaur model to the Slann. I do feel your right about Magic Defense though and have addressed it accordingly, 6 DD and 3 Scrolls should shut down most magic heavy armies.
