    Hey,

Am very new to lizards so please excuse any 'Noob' style errors you see. I'm trying to firm up a 500pt list that I can learn to use properly (and ask for at christmas time :D ) before expanding to greater point size battles.

    Here goes;

    Snu-Zte
    Skink Chief: 93
    Terradon
    Javelins

    15 Saurus Warriors:
    Standard Bearer

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    3 Terradon Riders

    Total: 500pts.

I've just finished reading the army book and remember a particular paragraph about skink chiefs leading small raiding parties - so I went down that road for my idea. Besides the terradon models are amoungst my all time favourites so they will be a definate feature.

Any C+C gladly welcome and appreciated, though it must be said I'm more into how an army looks than I am into making powergaming lists.

    Thanks for reading
    Chris

    A perfect 500 point list.

I'd say terradons are our best unit in gameplay terms and although I am not a fan of using skink chiefs for anything other than for mounting ancient stegadons with the war-spear in hand your terradon chief should be effective at this level.

The only thing that could be difficult for you to face is something like an enemy scar veteran or chaos warrior hero as they can chew through the small units at this level as well as other heroes. They would come with tiny armies though as they are 150-200 points when equipped properly.

Thankyou and thanks for the quick reply. Yeah a tooled up hero is a concern but as you mentioned the accompanying army would be quite small and vunerable to my darts and rocks.

Oh! One thing I would change. I didn't notice at first but your saurus really could do with spears. Drop the unit down to 12 (to be run 6x2, my favourite size) and add spears and a musician. You can then give your chief light armour and a shield, as well as venom of the firefly frog which will improve his shooting as well as his close combat attacks. This will leave you at 499. The saurus unit will lose its fat as well as 1 unit of combat resolution (CR) and some close combat armour (4+ save if in cc to the front instead of 3+) but will gain 14 attacks (ie 24 instead of 10) in all rounds of close combat except the round of charging if your saurus charge something.

    Ok, I follow you, thanks for your advice. So the new version would look something like this;

    Snu-Zte
    Skink Chief:
    Terradon
    Javelins
    Light Armour
    Shield
    Venom of the Firefly Frog

    12 Saurus Warriors:
    Spears
    Standard Bearer
    Musician

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    3 Terradon Riders

    Total: 499pts.

So, I'm really feeling the quick raiding force theme, especially at this low point level. It's probably not as effective as the above list, but hows does this look?

    Snu-Zte
    Skink Chief
    -Terradon
    -Javelins
    -Shield

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    10 Skink Skirmishers

    3 Terradon Riders

    5 Cold One Cavalry

    Total: 500pts.

I like both lists, with your changes.... something you made me think of with the modified first list....

You could drop the venom, Javelins, Light armour and Shield from the character and the standard bearer from the Saurus in favour of the Staff of the Lost sun. I think having 3 Strength 5 shots on your chief would be handy against the kinds of lists you'd struggle against (high armour/ tough characters). You could have him and his Terradon guards fly over the enemies tough unit ( in games this small theres generally only 1 real hard hitter) doing 4D3 rock drops, followed up by 3 javelins (from the other riders) and your 3 Strength 5 shots...

    Main reasoning behind these changes:

    1) removing standard removes the enemies only chance for an "easy" 100 victory points, meaning your Saurus are now only worth half of what they would have been (150pts instead of 262pts) but are only marginally weaker.

    2) It gives your army an attack with strength greater than 4, opening more options, otherwise your adding more strength 3 poison shots to an army that already has a solid base of them.

    3) Even tooled up for combat, your Chief would have a hard time facing off against enemy characters or elite units.

    4) You could use TikTaq'To (could use him anyway, but I just wanted to mention him!)

Please don't get me wrong, the list is great as is, Im just suggesting a personal change that I think might help you to overcome the weakness you've personally identified.

I'd also like to warn you about another potential problem opponent... magic heavy armies.... My only real advise is to try and take out mages where at all possible and use your dispel dice carefully, probably primarily to protect your Terradons/ character as thats where your points mainly are.

Dreadgrass - Thankyou very much for your help. As I mentioned in my OP, I'm a total noob with Lizards, I own the book and have read it a few times now but clearly not all the infomation is staying in! :D

The Staff of the Lost Sun sounds like an awesome call in this regard, so thankyou again for the heads up. Between the rocks, the poisen darts and the 'Staff' the enemy should be thinned out well and truly by the time the Saurus wade in to finish them off. I'm going to forgo the COC for the moment, the points cost for 5 models I feel is too high in such a low points battle.

Your concern about magic is valid though but in 99% of the time if the opponant does go with magic it will hamper the remaining size of his army and in most cases will only be a Lv2 so it will be their 4PD vs my 2DD, while these aren't brilliant odds it will go someway to reducing the impact magic has. If the opponant goes with 2 Lv2's at 500points I'm praying for a mis-cast and running full tilt to close with them as the accompying army should be extremely small.

Slightly off topic but to address your point (4) - the missus is hopefully buying the TikTaq'To model this month (I've dropped enough hints both subtle and otherwise! :D ) and it will become my Skink Chief.

Dumbledore-Not sure if you'll see this message but felt the need to say it anyway-awesome avatar, simply brilliant!

Thanks again for all your help, how's this little lot look?
