    Hey guys,

So, I've been out of the game for a long while, and after popping into GW the other day, I notice that every book bar Ogres, Tomb kings, Brettonians, Beastmen and Skaven has been redone since I last played. On top of that, I've never played Lizards before, so I really am going in blind with this. Thanks to some wonderfully helpful people on the introductions page, I've read through a few tacticas as well as other people's lists, here's what I've come up with.

    Lords

    Slann
    Wandering Deliberations
    Harmonic convergence
    Channeling staff
    BSB

    Heroes

    Saurus Scar Vet
    Great weapon
    Light armour
    Cold One
    Dawnstone
    Dragonhelm

    Skink Priest
    Level 2 (Beasts)
    Cube of Darkness

    Tetto'Eko

    Core

    25x Saurus
    Full command
    Spears

    25x Saurus
    Full Command
    Spears

    24x Skink Cohort
    Champion

    10x Skink Skirmishers
    Javelins

    10x Skink Skirmishers
    Javelins

    Special

    25x temple guard
    Full Command
    Lichebone pennant

    3x Ripperdactyl Riders

    Rare

    Ancient Stegadon
    Sharpened Horns

    Total: 2500pts

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I can't tell you how uncomfortable it makes me not taking a combat lord dolled up to the nines in gear, but I'll save that for another day :p

    Cheers,

    Seb

It looks fine, but you shouldn't go above 625pts of core. We can use the points elsewhere.

If you're using your rippers for warmachine hunters I'd consider using either cameleons or terradons. They're more reliable (frenzy issue).

Personally I would consider getting 2 salamanders.

So I took the liberty to give my version of your army:

    Lords

    Slann
    Wandering Deliberations
    Harmonic convergence
    Channeling staff
    BSB

    Heroes

    Saurus Scar Vet
    Great weapon
    Armour of Destiny
    Cold One

    Skink Priest
    Level 1 (Beasts)
    Dispel Scroll

    Tetto'Eko

    Core

    30 saurus w/ full command.

2 units of 10 skink skirmishers (javelin).

    23 skink cohort with musician.

    Special

    25x temple guard
    Full Command
    Razor Banner (armour Piercing).

    3x Ripperdactyl Riders

    Rare

    Ancient Stegadon
    Sharpened Horns

    Total: 2249pts

So here's the deal. There is 251pts left for you to do with what you want. Want another ancient stegadon? Go ahead. More rippers? Or how about a couple of salamanders to go along with those rippers? Maybe more templeguards?

My opinion? I love me some ancient stegadon so that would be an obvious choice. I think I would take 2 salamanders + snacks, make the rippers into cameleons (my preference, others like terradons) and put the rest into the templeguards.

Oh and about those. I went with razor banner because S5 + AP is awesome. Even Armour Save +1 units should fear them.

One thing though. If you really want to utilize slann + tetto you could consider getting the book of ashur instead of the channel monster. I also figured that you didn't need 2 x lvl 2 and a lvl 4. Again my preference, but I like the scroll better than the cube due to it always working. Failing on a 1 is just lame.

As always these are just suggestions. Ask more if you feel like, otherwise then have fun and tell us how it went :)

Thank you so much for such a detailed reply :). I must say, GW seems to have done a really good job with this book, with so many different things being playable.

While I have huuuuuuge love for the stegadon, the salamanders seem almost too good to pass up, can't believe I skipped over them on my first pass (also snack is now my new favourite bit of Warhammer slang). As to chameleons/terradons, I went with the latter because flyers are something of a novelty for an old hand Ogre player such as myself, plus I think the models are particularly tasty.

I think the overspend on core came as a knee jerk reaction, I played ogres in 7th edition against primarily Chaos and Dwarves, so after I'd bought my heroes and lord, I just filled near every remaining point with copious numbers of ironguts.

As to the Slann, which would you recommend, the power dice advantage in the Channel Monster seems a more hefty boon to me, but I can see why you might want the book.

I'm afraid it'll be a little while before I get to play, I'm still building my first 20 saurus at the moment, btu I can't wait to have the list done and to get some games in.

    Thanks again!!
