Greetings all my army is coming along... though I have yet to play. I am putting a list together for a 1250 pt army for a game in a couple weeks. Please be patient with my questions as not only am I a nube but I tend to learn best when actually playing so I have been reading the rules but a lot wont click until I've played a few times. This is the list I've put together so far... thoughts? Lord Slaan Mage Priest (1) Hero Skink Priest w/Cloak (1) Rare Salamander (2) (1) Special Cold One Cav. (8) Temple Guard (12) Core Saurus Warrior(20) Skinks scout skirmishers (24) TOTAL 1244
Firstly at this point level you really don't need a slann (especially a naked one)! At low points cost Saurus are the way forward. 2 solid blocks of those and you are going smash most things. Second you cannot have a unit of 24 skink skirmishers. I recommend splitting them into 2x12. Thirdly a Scarvet will do your army wonders. Lloyd
Ok so I do have another 20 Saurus I can use and 8 more temple guard and Chakax. Do I still want the temple guard even if I have no Slaan? I forgot to say the Skinks are 2 x 12 oh I also have another 8 CoC that I was not planning on using. I have not purchased a scar vet yet. Should that be a priority? Thank You!
All LM SC IMO are a waste of money. Just you Chakax as a SV with Great Weapon. And Don't use them. Use your Saurus. At 1250 with 2 blocks of saurus with full comm your looking at 40% of your force already. + a SV and a priest with skinks and 8 CoC your should be looking rosey. Lloyd
if you use a slann and play with 1200 points you can just put in a BSB it is ALWAYS worth the 25 points if you use a slann anyway
Level 2 skink p is a must. And no. Do not take a slann at 1250. With a unit of TG your looking at 500pts + with a small unit and no upgrades. Sallies are fantastic and I always take at least one in any points game. Lloyd
Ok so I'm polishing my list. I am thinking of dropping the temple guard as I'm having trouble getting my priest to where I want so my list would be 20 Saurus 20 Saurus 12 Skink Skirmishers 12 Skink Skirmishers 1 Salamander w/ 3 handlers 8 CoC 1 Skink priest L 2 w/ Feathered Cloak and Dispel scroll 1 Scar Vet. I will add standard bearers to all units that can have them and might add Huanchi's Blessed Totem to the CoC. My book is at home so I have to get the exact points but based on what I recall that puts me pretty close to 1250
hey here is the list your looking for skink priest lvl 2 plaque of tepok dispel scroll (just for some magic offense and defense should be in skirmishers on average you should get either comet or chain cast them with 6 dice if you dont get one of em just cast spell 0 for the -1 ld on enemy generals unit and his army will have ld 7 as most 1250 ld generals will have ld 8 (all within 12 of enemy general)) scar-vet bane head armour of fortune shield (general should give your enemy general a headache and keep himself alive with 2+ 5+ keep him with saurus) 24 saurus full command (just melee) 24 saurus full command (same again) 10 skirmishers (keep within 12 of scar-vet) 5 chameleon skinks (for a much needed anti warmachine unit) 5 cold one cavalry (strike force should hammer small units or go into side of unit in combat with saurus they should not have a magic banner or champion just plane maybe with mus) salamander hunting pack (dont leave home without em!) total 1448
If you feel nasty add a rod of storm to the priest rather than tepok and possibly flying cloak not dispel. Admittedly at l2 and 1200pts the dispel scroll will stop one hit wonder spells but the storm means your priest doesn't spend half the game going around using a terrible heavens spell and he can sit pretty much anywhere on the table out of charge arcs. I would also suggest either dropping the cold ones for more saurus units or bulking out existing ones.
wolfmage yes i see that the comet is terrible its just that bad there is just no spell thats worse wh even have it in the lore? (ironic) and that its much better having your priest not casting any good spells but just use the rod (where he does not get +2 to casting!) and scroll who needs a scroll answer everybody! it can sometimes close down an entire magic phase enemy having 8 dice you having 5 he casts a spell 4 dice scroll and your on top and his phase is shut down! buut thats just my oppinion
Why not just go and get the Ruby Ring of Ruin. Yes I know its a bound spell, and yes I know its not as strong as the thunderbolt. But you can use it over and over and over as long as you have dice. It is the same point cost for the rod of storm and you can only use the rod one time. It is like you got Plaque of tepok anyways and a better damage spell from another lore. With a cloak, that ring and at 1200 points, you should cause a mild headache for your opponent.
Thank you all! I have been polishing my list up but I need to do some reading on the Ruby Ring of Ruin, the Rod or storm, the, plaque of tepok, and the bane head armour of fortune shield. Currently my list is: Scar Vet - shield of mirrored pool, Lt. A, halberg Skink Priest - L2 & Feathered Cloak LOH, dispell Salamander Cold One Cav. (8) - Standard Bearer & Huanchi's blessed totem Saurus Warrior (20) - Standard Bearer Saurus Warrior (20) - Standard Bearer Skink Skirmishers (12) Skink Skirmishers (12) TOTAL 1251 Vict I dont currently have any chameleon skinks or enough Saurus to do your list but They are on my to buy ASAP list . I will read the other suggestions still trying to figure out magic items and banners. I have played a couple times and am loving my skirmishers and priest.
Why take the expencive shield and then give him a weapon that prevents him from using it in close combat, is the magic protection all you're going for?
