Hey guys, as the title indicates, I am brand new to Warhammer (although have played 40k for some time). I found a 7th edition rulebook online and was able to kindly borrow the Lizardmen Codex from a friend, since he recommended not purchasing one, as a new codex is in store soon. Anyway, this may be a terrible idea, but I really want to build a Skink list - I think they are some pretty cool guys Heroes: Skink Priest lvl 2 with 2 Dispel Scrolls (not sure if it's legal to grab 2, but hey, I'm a newbie) 5 x Skink Chiefs w/ 1 BSB and 5 LA, Shields, 2 x Hand Weapons Core: 20 Skink Skirmishers 24 Skinks w/ SB, Musician, and 3 Kroxigor (Skink Chiefs go here) 24 Skinks w/ SB, Musician, and 3 Kroxigor Special: 10 x Chameleon Skinks w/ Stalker (Skink Priest goes here) 10x Chameleon Skinks w/ Stalker Rare: 3 x Salamander Pack w/ extra 3 Handlers 1 Ancient Stag (couldn't decide if the extra armor and Giant Blowpipe is worth 40 points, but I think so) The basic plan is to confuse the hell out of my opponent (and myself of course) with a lot of Skirmish attacks. I've heard that magic is much more powerful in WH Fantasy than 40k, so hopefully I can nullify some of it with the Skink Priest's 2x dispel scrolls. The 5 x Skink Chiefs and 3 x Krox/ Skink pack can hopefully deal with any tough infantry in CC, while the Salamander Pack and second 3x Krox/ Skink pack will supplement against other monsters/ tough infantry. I'm not really sure where the ancient steg fits in - I can't figure out if it is a better ranged support unit or another CC basher. Anyway, it's my first attempt, so constructive criticism would be much appreciated... Yeah yeah, I already know Slanns are supposed to be badass, and Sauraus warriors may be the better CC option, but I really want to keep it to a Skink army, unless it will absolutely fail me. Cheers - SkinkyPants
are you going to play 7th edition? no, sadly you can't have 2 dispel scrolls all-skink armies are nice, but they are quite difficult to use. With this list you are going to have problems with magic and close combat, and you should do well regarding movement and with your\against your opponent's ranged attacks. The real strenght of lizardmen, though, is the right balance between light and heavy units
Thanks for the reply - no, I'm just reading the 7th edition book, because it's FREE! Eventually I'll grab the 8th edition rulebook. Yeah, I definitely think the list could struggle - especially without a Slann. I've made a newer version that basically replaces the Steg for a Slann along with a couple of other changes. Life seems to be quite fantastic, and hopefully I can buff my Skinks for a little more survivability... I aggree that I am lacking some hitting power - everyone I've talked to is taking a dump on the Skink Chiefs, so maybe I'll remove them from the list (although I still think that 25 WS4 S4 attacks at I 6 could work!). I'll give it a try anyway.
