This is the first complete mini I've ever painted. Questions and critique are all welcome!

(Sorry the picture quality's not great, I don't have the world's best camera!)

I should note the pics are a bit darker than real life - the base is actually a little darker than this green, not black as it looks in the picture

Hmm this is just my opinion but I think you should use silver or chainmail on metal areas to make them stand out more. And use a little lighter green on the skin (Or atleast light drybrush) and some washes would make it look better. And you should use bleached bone instead of skull white for teeth to get more natural look. Otherwise nice for first model. :)

It looks good, I like the colors. I'm having a tough time deciding how to paint my saurus. I think you should stick with gold for metal areas. I like gold since it goes along with the Azetc theme. If did want to make them stand out you could try highlights with a lighter gold. I agree that the teeth could be toned down. I like the spikes on his back, you could paint them like that (which is tough since they're so small), but I bet the light brown wash would do the trick. Looking forward to seeing the rest of them painted up.

I did apply a wash, but I'm thinking maybe I didn't use enough? I don't have experience using it at all. And I'm definitely going to give gold a try on my next model, the bronze is just too close in color to the brown.

The bronze color you used makes a good base though, you could probably dry brush it from one of the lighter golds and then it'd stand out from the brown. The washes don't work too well on top of dark colors. The wash needs to be darker than the color you're putting it on top of to get really good effects out of it. If you want more contrast on a dark area you are probably better off highlighting with a light color and coming back in with the wash if you still need to. I don't have too much experience with them either so there may be tricks others around here know.

it looks very good over all. what i would like to see is more contrast between the individual teeth and claws (a wash of devlan mud should take care of that). also, i think the eyes should be a much brighter yellow, so they are visible even against the brown of the scales.

i do not think you should use silver (i truly hate silver on LM). but it is possible that gold will stand out better against the brown. you could try adding mithril silver to it and make a very pale gold (or a pale copper perhaps?).

lastly, i think its worth the little extra effort using another basing technique. i suggest that you glue sand on first, and when that is dry you paint it a drak brown and then drybrush with one or two layers of lighter browns. to avoid the "earth" to be too much like the scales, i suggest painting teh sand with a mix of black and scorched brown, then drybrush scorched brown, and finally a light drybrush with graveyard earth or khemri brown. THEN you glue on static grass, but do it in tufts. it is perfectly all right if it covers 80% of the base, but it WILL look much better than gluing the grass straight on to the base.

    best of luck

Looks good, different choice of colors, i like that ;)

A lighter drydrush on the scales and and some highligh on the skin would work wonders.

Yeah, as The Lord Tsu said, use some sand for the base aswell, it helps alot.

    Keep it up ;)
