Salamanders are really awesome in 8th edition, probably get your two salamanders next. Especially against the armies you mentioned, most of which have high armor.

yes I read many topics on the forum about salies probably being great in 8th, I was just wandering will I have adequate units to handle my opponents war machines(DE reapers ant Dwarfs) without teradons???

It is tough because you really want both of those units. Ideally you should talk with your opponents and see if they would let you proxy one unit while you save for the other. My friends would let me proxy all the time when I was first starting so I could decide if I liked a unit before I spent the money on it.

Personally I would get salamanders first, and then rely on your EOTG to get you across the field mostly intact. And possibly convert/proxy one of your unit of skirmishers into a unit of 6 chameleon skinks to help against war machines.

If you have lots of skinks, it is easy to convert them into chameleons. All you have to do is trim off the fin, then roll up some little balls of green stuff for chameleon eyes. Trim the tails and add a curl to the tail. Paint them, then you are done.

In the 8th edition, chameleons may take a larger role in war machine hunting because they can be in the open as long as they are 12 inches away from the enemy units.

    that's some nice advice.

do you think a pack o chameleon skinks and lets say a flying priest would be enough to handle the warmachines?

@Kurlin - seeing the new rules in 8th, EOTG will have to be a flanker and not a center of the line any more, so will it be able to cover much of the troops under it's bubble?

The priest is way too squishy to be flying anywhere for war machine hunting. Think Skink chief with cloak of feathers or a terradon for that.

Depending on the terrain even flanking may be no good 8th with TLOS and no more guess ranges. Plus forests not blocking line of sight etc... So too early to say.

@Arli - yeah your right, and the Chief would probably work only if he doesn't have some shooters around the warmachines..,

@Kurlin - well I guess in that case you could field it at the center for protection and maybe double charge some unit together with COC or something like that....I'm just scared of skink priests being to easily killed in frontal charge...

If you're worried about your priests being charged, don't put them in a unit. They're fast enough that they can get away from just about anything and can hide in forests and other terrain because they are a single model (act as skirmishers).

Actually I was thinking that because of the step up rule it will be a lot easier to kill the priest ridding an EOTG since the units can attack him freely, thou he gets the 2+ armor save his low toughness means there will be armor modifiers most of the time....

Don't bother with a cloak of feathers chief, just get the terradon. Slightly more expensive but totally worth it.

I am really hoping they don't put something in our erreta coming out in July about salamanders having breath weapons and thus only being able to shoot once a game.

What?! That would make 'em completely useless. Maybe if they dropped their point cost by 50. What salis are now is a low str, move and shoot warp-fire thrower. I can't see GW nerfing them that much.
