Hi first time poster here, hello everyone. Next weekend I have a battle, Lizardmen (the first time I'm using my new army) Vs Warriors of Chaos, 2000pnts. Its a weid one because he is getting ready for a tornement and we are play testing his army against the worst posible outcomes so I know exactly what he is taking, but he dosn't even know what army I'm going to use. He will be using 3 units of 60 maurarders with MoK/greatweapons!!! 3 units of 5 hounds, 10 maurarders with flais, a level 2 sorcerer, a BSB on disc with book of secrets, so he's a wizard to, and a chaos lord on disc with crown of command and a 3+ward. So here is my question. What units should I take to destroy him? Here's what I was thinking. Slan- Focus of mystery, Forcused rumination, Higher state of consciousness, Cupped hands.(dont no what lore to take yet, thinking about Life?) Skink Chieff on ancient stegadon with War-spear. 2 units of 30 saurus with full command. 10 chameleon skinks. 4 salamanders (would take more but its all I've got). Thats the lot and I think I'm gunna get my ass kicked. All help is welcome.
I'm not the best to offer Army List advice, but welcome to Lustria. You'll find people here are pretty helpful. I myself are getting ready for upcoming battles. Life Slann is always a solid choice from what I've seen, are you using Temple Guard for the Slann? Cupped Hands of the Old Ones is usually the staple Arcane Item to run with, with Life's Throne of Vines it might be redundant for Miscast Protection, but it still good as both offensive and defensive. Salamanders are always a great offensive, having atleast 2 or 3 seems to be the way people go. Having a Skink Chief with Warspear is cool and fun, but I'm not sure how effective it would be for the cost. For the price you could have another small unit. (I have a Skink Chief on my Ancient Stegadon just in case I feel like testing this when we start playing =P) Do you have any extra Units at your disposal that you didn't list? To give us an idea on what you could work with? Good Luck, I'm sure others can give more accurate advice than me. Just thought I would give you a speedy reply and welcome.
Thanks for the quick reply Maazie. The models I have left over are 40 skinks, 20 saurus, 6 kroxigors, 1 stegadon, 1 skink priest, 1 oldblood on a carnosaur and 1 scar-vet on a coldone.
See if you can get the kroxigor in there somehow. I think a unit of 3 krox and however many skinks would go great against that marauder horde w/ gw. I'd swap out the chief and grab a priest if you want a skink character.
with that amount of marauder's it's all about skinks. Tare great against low/no armour units and you can also be used to bait and flee. Bizarrely Chaos don't have amazing leadership so one failed frenzy test can snarl up his entire battle line. Don't be afraid to sacrifice a unit of 10 skinks to keep him away from your slan (and the Dwellers below) for another turn. For this reason I'd break the camo skinks into 2 units of 5 Although they are on 25mm bases I still think with those massive units salamanders are a good way to go, you're opponent is only T3 so killing half of what you hit? Yes please, even from the front you'll be burning about 7 or 8 dead a turn!
Agreed with Tim-rek bring sallies. Panic test the hell out of thos marauders. Take as many units of 1 or 2 as you can fit in the list.
Life is really good, almost every spell is good and if you get off Throne of Vines you have some solid miscast protection. The power of Dwellers scales with the target unit size, on avarage a single spell kills 30 Marauders.... they get no saves and magic resistance is useless and it if you're lucky his chars fail their LoS & S test as well and instantly die with no ward or armor save. 1 Dweller + 1-2 sally shots and maybe a little skink fire can easily get a block of 60 Marauders down to 20 in 1 round. Mark of Khorne = Frenzy = Immune to psych. Sallies are still awesome for their damage tho.
