Hello! I'm looking to make a viable army at 1000 points that includes only flying or skirmishing units (Skinks, Chameleons, Terradons and Ripperdactyls primarily). I wanted to know before I really go for this theme whether it was viable, and what sort of tactics you'd recommend. An idea off the top of my head is one huge swarm of terradons (or Ripperdactyls for combat) for mass rock damage, then deny the opponent as many points as possible. Anyway, enough rambling. Let me know your thoughts and ideas.
More and small units of Terradons are generally better than one big one. Its better for board control and forces the opponent to split their fire (you can also split your fire if there isn't one big ideal target to drop rocks on). Ripperdactyls also have an effective size cap, and that's because Monstrous mounts don't make supporting attacks. At 20mm wide, this means that you'll rarely want more than 4-5, especially as they should be going into flanks. You could do a big unit of, say, 6+ and just accept that the additional models are there to asborb wounds and slam them into the front of things, but this sort of wastes the big advantage that Ripperdactyls have, and that's their long range and mobility. A couple of flying Skink characters or one with the Cloak of Feathers would work just fine, and skirmishing Skinks of any variety are brilliant. At any larger points values I'd worry about dealing with armour, but at 1k you should be fine. If all else fails - take a Scar-Vet or an Oldblood with the Carpet.
Ok, thanks. This is the list I've come to: http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14430 Check it out and let me know what you think.
