Its quite a simple slann combo, but not one I've seen posted here. Basically you take the forbiddon rod (I think this is its name, I don't have the book infront of me), it gives D6 power dice but deals D3 wounds to the user. I've run this in a few games where I've taken lore of life on the slann. Wait until the winds of magic blow poorly, pop the forbiddon rod giving you a fairly decent casting pool whilst your opponent has very few dispel dice (hopefully). You can easily heal up the D£ wounds using Lifes attribute of gaining a wound on a succesful cast. Cupped hands and Life don't really work so well together imo, so I've used this a few times and it works nicely. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Definitely a great combo. Though I have switch from it to Bane Head + Feedback Scroll for my Life Slann.
I tend to play only high elves and chaos warriors in my little gaming group. The high elf player tends to only take a lvl 2 wizard, the chaos player usually takes a lvl 4 sorceror but only for magical defence against my slann, so usually a feedback scroll/bane head combo wouldn't be that useful for me.
Thats cool. IMO the Feedback+head is still worth the 65 points to take out a lv 2 or pop a couple of wounds on an enemy lord but I could see the arguement to not include it. That is the thing about the Life Slann. Cupped hands is great. Feedback+head is great. Forbidden Rod is great. Cheap as chips with Plaque of Tepok (and no Focuse of Mystery) is great. Non Life Slann is another matter entirely. Then you are pretty much confined to Cupped Hands. I have seen Power Scroll with or without Soul of Stone though (IMO this is stupid).
These builds are pretty standard I think. I wasn't real comfortable with the Forbidden rod but I used it in one game and the one time I rolled double ones and then used the rob. My slann not only got back his wounds but I also killed off the other guy's general! I won't use it all the time but it is definately a nice build to keep your opponent's guessing.
oooooo, nice. i actually hadn't considered this load-out before and i like it quite a bit. at least as an alternative to either bane head/feedback, or cupped hands.
Try playing against O&G with their Staff of Sneaky Stealing and the Banner that gives them a Dispel dice for every rank in a particular unit. Your Forbidden Rod might just get you to parity on the odd turn. I speak from bitter experience
I am usting the forbidden rod right now and really likeing it. Against most armies it will give you one really dominant phase per game.
this also strikes me as a good way to actually have 2 slaan in your army. people talk about having 2 slaan a lot, but although the extra slaan is giving you access to different spells, he's not generating any power dice. at least in this scenario a second slaan taking lore of life could generate some power die and at least be more worthwhile than a second slaan would normally be.
I played this combo the other night, it was stunning, I'll definitely be using it again! Thanks for the tip.
