Facts: -A BSB with Skavenpelt Banner is a character (duh). -A priest on EOTG or Chief on Steg is a character. -As per the LRB, a group of characters can form an impromptu unit composed entirely of characters. -The banner gives frenzy to any unit it joins. Does this add up right??? Incidently, did anyone ever shoot down that whole idea where a unit that's frenzied by the banner keeps it even if he leaves because they haven't been beaten in combat? (Unless they have been beaten, of course!) Which raisesd another question: Unit gets frenzied, loses combat, loses frenzy, BSB comes running back and re-joins them...do they get frenzied AGAIN??? Got a tourney coming up, planning on having a lot of fun with this...
Even if this is legal, is it really that effective? Frenzy would give the Steg +1 attack, but that isn't where a Steg does its damage. The real killing power is in impact hits and Thunderstomp, and those wouldn't be affected. Making a steg vulnerable to Frenzy-baiting for just 1 more attack doesn't seem worth it.
Crew, too! So, it's +1A @S6, +4A w/ Poison, and any characters get it. Against Skaven, add in Hatred from the banner, so all their attacks, and Thunderstomps and Impact Hits, are re-rollable now. Add War-Spear and its +D6 re-rollable S6 impact hits. Not too shabby! I just want to see the look on their faces when I say "My Ancient Steg now has frenzy". And we can always take a cold-blooded LD test to restrain from having to charge. That, and they're pretty much always on the charge, anyways. STOMP, STOMP, STOMP!
I was flipping through the LRB last night and I'm 99% sure poison works in close combat, too. Unless there's a difference between 'poison' and 'jungle poison' I'm at work right now (SHHHHH dont tell!) and can't look it up.
There is a difference between poison and jungle poison. Jungle poison is specified in the LM rule book as only affecting ranged attacks.
Or character with venom of the firefly frog. Steggie is monster, monster can't join units, even character only units, even single characters, it's still a unit. Giving skavenpelt banner to BSB chief on steggie would work though, couldn't take warspear either.
Ah yes, I see now where it says a character on a monster is counted as a 'monster' not as a 'mounted character'. Warning: This is what happens when you blend 19 years of WHFB rules changes in your head As always, thanks guys!
