My brother, cousin and myself all got together the other day to play a random game of Warhammer, they decided to pool their elf armies together and have a 4K pt battle. My army list was actually fairly effective, (very minimal casualties), and was just curious if maybe it was just my rolls working FOR me for once lol, (I'm prone to a tonne of 1s when I need 6s, and vice versa)... I also realize this size of battle is unfeasable for tournaments for the most part. Was just for fun. Why I'm posting, is feedback for improvement should we do it again. I fielded Mazdamundi (Just to try for once, and they placed (and occupied) a tower on the map which was funny...) but I was debating switching him out for 2 Slann (the extra dice per cast and loremaster on the life one, and just the extra dice on the shadow). List was as follows. (Board was 4X8 feet, very awkward) 1 X Lord Mazdamundi (w/ Death Lore) running solo 1 X Old Blood on Carnosaur (Spear, Lt. Armour and Shield) in the Cavalry Unit (*General*) 1 X Lv 2 Skink Priest on Ancient Stegadon with Engine of the Gods (Iceshard Blizz and Harmonic Converge) solo 2 X 40 Saurus (Spear + Full Command) as Hordes 1 X 20 Skink Skirmishers (With Brave) 1 X 24 Cold One Cavalry (Full Command + Banner (Sun Standard of Chotek)) as Horde 4 X 10 Chameleon Skinks (With Stalker) Basically, terrain got set up forest left side near front of deployment (from my side), which we made a mysterious forest that turned into a poison forest. There was an Old Tower set up on the other side of center near their deploy. There was an impassable range on the right side, at center, and a hill on the far right corner (In Their deploy). I also realize that their army was fairly shoddy at best, since they are both heavy heavy into small groups of everything available lol. Caer-Dren? (the moonbow guy?) was fielded for their army (and ended up Inside the tower with the 9 super scouty archer guys (lol... iFail at elf unit names) My Army was arranged so that my Cav was centered and was able to move through the gap between forest and mountain, With a saurus unit directly behind due to the lack of manouvering room anyways. My other horde of saurus was to the left, set to move through the forest towards the tower. Mazdamundi was also to the left, angled to be also able to manouver around the forest and stay nearby the cav. The Priest was to the right, same deal. Skirmish Skinks were on the right behind the mountain to start. My Chamo skinks ended up with 3 units front center spread so as to maximize darts on the first turn they get to shoot, and they were silly enough to leave room behind their archers for my other unit of chamo to array there (and later take out the **SOLO** mages, and a whole bunch of archers who turned and tried to shoot them down (rest of army focussed ALL fire on mazdamundi, and the Cav...). In the end, I had 1 unit of chamo left (at 50%), 1 with 1 guy (rolled double ones for rally after combat with their cav... lol). I had all but 4 cav, and all but 8 saurus, 11 of my skink skirms, and no more mount for mazdamundi. So, like I said, I realize that I a) got lucky with rolls, and b) got lucky that my fam isnt all that good with their warhammer strats, but, I still wanna hope this list (in an edited form) could be useable and winnable in future 4K battles.
Horde of cavalry is intriguing. Unfortunately, Carnosaur cannot joing cavalry or any other unit. Even without that error in your favor, your list should be able to handle any large elf list that relies on small units. In my experience elves are scariest when horded.
Ah! good to know . To be honest, I kinda like the thought of him running around to support the other units anyways. Also.. Instead of the Mazdamundi/OB w Carn... Would it be a better match-up to go with the dual slann and maybe a OB on Cold One instead? And take a few magic items and another unit of skink skirmishers to fill in?
It probably would. Maz is overpriced and Carnosaurs are overkill against most HE units, but if you easily trounced your opponents maybe you don't need to make your list more competitive.
