Hail servants of the Old Ones, I'm new to the realm of Fantasy, being a bit of a 40k nut, and after much coaxing from my fellow 40k players, we've all decided to start a set of fantasy armies and with this, a campaign. I'd love to get a bit of Input on my list, as I've only really played a single game with my Lizardmen, so I'm a bit shaky on the ' particular ' workings of everything. My opponents during this campaign will be, Vampire Counts, Dark Elfs, Dwarfs and Skaven. My current list is as follows: 14x Saurus w/ Spears, banner Saurus Leader w/ G.weapon, L.Armour and 6+ Ward Save ( Joins above ) 15 x Saurus w/ Spears, banner, Champ I realize that I'm not the most mobile of forces and heavy shooty / magic will be my bane, but after the success ( or lack there of ) with skink skirmishers, I've decided to start with a heavy base of Saurus. Now the group of us have decided to start with a single list, and simply progress each list forward. As the campaign progresses so do the point value. For my jump to 750 points, I've already started to assemble a block of Skinks with a pair of Kroxigore. As for the later jumps, I thought about adding in some Magic, getting my Skink priest in there, maybe for 1k with EoTG. Love to hear your reaction. Be brutal, I love input. -Bauhus
I think having the two unit of Saurii is a little under-optimal.. I would drop one unit of Saurii which is about 200 points how you've got it setup.. Then I would add 2 units of Skinks with blow pipes (12 models each) They add some mobility to the army and you can hit/wound on 6s when you shoot with the jungle poisons.. I doubt you'll see a lot of armor saves from the Skaven or Vampire Counts or very good ones from the Dark Elves. The dwarfs will be a little tougher I imagine, depending on their load out with their gun line. Although it depends what he fields. When you say saurus leader, I assume you mean Scar Vet? I love mounted vets but you don't have a unit of COC which you can't really fit at this point level. You can have him mounted if you want for only 20 points though and join with a unit of saurus, or keep him on foot. I'd probably equip him with a Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent or Sword of Battle/Maiming shield, because then he'll get 6 attacks and won't always strike last with the great weapon. Light Armor is a good choice. With his 5+ base armor, he gets 3+ with the LA and Shield. If you mount him on the Cold one he has a base 1+ armor save from the Scaly nature of the Cold One. If you do: Scar Vet Cold One Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent Light Armor Shield 13x Saurus (rank up the vet here) Spears Standard 12x Skink Skirmisher 12x Skink Skirmisher That comes to 500 points on the nose. Plus gets you a lot more mobile and a pretty decent punch with the saurus. Also gives you a stronger general in my opinion and gets you some poison shooting. Helps drop those hordes of undead and rats you're bound to see which should cause more panic with the rats which have like base leadership of 5 when you start hitting their rank bonus.
