Hi all. I'm getting some Pitched Battles going at my local, and I'm wondering if it's worth bringing any of the big monsters in 1000 point games. We're not particularly cutthroat, and so far people are mainly sticking to their old factions, so we're not seeing Hurricanums or Stonehorns in all order or destro lists. I expect all bets will be off if we ever get a tournament going, but for now it's mainly casual, though nobody wants to get stuck playing a wet noodle either. So far in my 4-5 games I've mainly just been using big saurus warrior and temple guard blocks with some skirmishers on the flanks and a cavalry reserve, and I've done pretty well, but I'd like to build some of these dinos I have and ramp up the fantasy element a bit more. Thanks for any advice!
I would say it is worth it, especially if you start having toruneys or grow league. Here is a simple list, that I would use in friendly games. Contains one Carnosaur, but not cheesy or overpowered: Leaders Saurus Oldblood (100) - Suntooth Maul Saurus Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260) - Warblade Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100) Battleline 10 x Saurus Warriors (100) - Clubs 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances - Seraphon Battleline 5 x Saurus Knights (120) - Lances - Seraphon Battleline Units Battalions Bloodclaw Starhost (100) Total: 1000/1000 You could experiment with a bunch of the Behemoths without being overly cheesy. So build away.
theres 2 lists i have seen that work really well at 1000 shadowstrike starhost or skinks and bastillidons, with skink priests, chiefs and starseer boosting the bastillidons up and getting them on the front lines 1st list is very strong but if u roll poorly on your alpha strike it can be tricky, 2nd list is bad on escalation
Bastiladons are great. They are absolutely worth their 300 Points. I'd definitely use one for a 1000 points list I think.
Yeah, it really depends on your meta. Our beastclaw player fields a frostlord on Stonehorn and a Thundertusk at 1000 pts. In the end, yes, you can use 1 or 2 behemoths at 1000 pts, and they're really effective... but keep also in mind that there's a power increase if you do so.
Interesting.... One Huskard on Stonehorn and one Huskard on Thundertusk, with an Icebrow Hunter as General and two packs of Frost Sabres as battleline are 1000 points. Or maybe the two Huskards and two units of Yhetees for 960. I imagine that could work. How does he play it at 1000?
Frostlord on Stonehorn - general Thundertusk - battleline w Beastclaw Allegiance Mournfang pack - Battleline w Beastclaw Allegiance 980 pts very few model, so some problems with objectives, but they're fast as hell, and with the frostlord that run and charge, the mournfangs that charge with 3 dices and can re-roll the charge... they are the most immediate danger, and so the Thundertusk is usually untargeted and shoots its 6 mortal wounds at long range.
OK I'll admit it I am only jealous. Imagine having a Stegadon or Bastiladon count as Battleline.... those possibilities...
It's the most OP army in my opinion, so hard to kill a stonehorn and if you don't tackle the mournfang packs before they target you they will destroy you.
Agree. Those Behemoths would be great even without that ability to ignore half the wounds they take. IMO they should either lose some damage or some wounds, or they should get their points cost increased by 60 or so. Or lose their speed. Something. The way they are they are too strong.
Pretty much. The only vaguely comparable thing is the Warsphinx of Tomb Kings, that comes with 2 flavors (with and without mounted king). it halves the wounds, but it's slow (6"), got a worse save (4+) and the damage that can deal in CC falls far behind the stonehorn.
Oof. That Beastclaw list looks really difficult to take on. I've gone and built myself an Oldblood Carno and a Bastiladon with the snakes. Have another Bastiladon I'll build with the other option, and then I think my next will be a Stegadon, though I haven't decided how to build it yet. Thanks guys!
The bastiladon with solar engine, or two of them, are great for a defensive list. The jade Battlemage is also worth its weight in gold to heal them up if they take any damage. Top it off with two units of Skinks for Battleline and a Skink chief (the command ability works on bastiladon as it has Skink keyword) as your general. Th is was inspired by @InfamousBeany 's list somewhere else on this forum.
