Having a small friendly battle tonight 1500 points was thinking of leaving my slann and either using the skink with the snakes can not remember his name book is at home with a big slink bias or a hard hitting beefed up old blood in a 30 strong sarus block, both supported by skink priest and maybe cold ones and sallies! What are people's thoughts. am playing dark elves bloody thieves! He will prob field a supreme supped up sorceress and a hydra for cert with bolt thrower spearmen crossbow men and corsears and for good measure a hidden assassin! Or shall I just rely on the trusted slann?
I have gone Slanless against dark elves several times, and almost allways won my matches. Tehenhauin can be a lot of fun, also it's woth noting you can mount him on an Engine of the gods Stegadon.
That's fine I only use my stegadon if he uses his dragon 2d6+1 impact hits nearly always kills it! I'm torn between fast skink army or slow tough sarus army!! Also if you chose to flee as a charge reaction can u be pursued
I'd consider going minimalist with a cheap skink hero of some kind (perhaps with the Ruby Ring to let you throw some fire on the Hydra). A skink chief or priest in a unit of skirmishers will keep dancing around the enemy and won't give your enemy the chance to throw his assassin at you. Minimialist expenditures on characters will let you maximize the potential of a Slannless list by letting you buy greater numbers of your favorite units whatever they may be. If you do want something a little more hard wearing, a Scar Veteran with the Burning Blade of Chotec can give you a hand against the Hydra. If you can afford Saurus Cav, consider giving a unit of Saurus Cav the Banner of Eternal Flame and pointing it at the Hydra. If you want to go REALLY unorthodox, try a skink battle standard bearer with the banner of eternal flame and bring the Hydra down with flaming poisonous shooting from a unit of skirmishers.
Wow that's very helpful thanks would you always chose a scar vet over old blood? Also do you know why the pursue rule is for pursuing of a fleeing unit you charged at. Eg he charges my skinks I chose to flee how easy is it for him to pursue and cut down my skinks?
Scar Veteran versus Oldblood determines, in a Slannless list depends on how many points you want to spend. Scar Veterans are cheaper, Old Bloods have a little bit better stats and a 100 point magic item allowance. I have rarely fielded Old Bloods (and never with only 50 points of magic items) but that is personal preference not irrefutable wisdom. To catch a fleeing unit of skinks (or any other fleeing unit), you have to roll the distance to reach their original position plus whatever the fleeing unit rolled on their 2d6 roll. Skinks flee when necessarily but if you use march and fire and use your 12" movement each round you can usually stay out of the charge arc of an enemy unit. This means you don't have to flee as much, unless two units work together to block this, but if that's the case you have the benefit of having redirected the movement of two units with mere skinks. Remember if you take a skink hero, your skirmishers become a lot less expendable. Even a cheap skink hero will usually double the point value of the skinks he's with.
Update for you guys if your interested. I kicked his ass, he got 703 vp I got 1011!! It was pretty much over in first phase of magic. Chain lightening is awesome, cast it from my level two priest on his crossbow men killed one, went onto hydra took off three wounds, bounced to his first unit of corsairs, killed four they panicked fleed the battle field. Next unit of corsairs, killed one then bounced onto his supreme sorceress, killed it!! Boom dead general!!! All from one spell awesome!!! I then cast the comet and at start of his magic phase it hit and killed my general!! Whoops lol, skink chief with blade of sotek also very usefull killed his other sorceress! my 8 coldones with scar vet murdered his 5 coldones. Awesome battle
