So I'm just getting into Fantasy with the new edition, and after playing 40k for the past 10 years I've not yet had a fully converted army, and since I'm starting a Fantasy Army I thought it'd be time to finally have something that was fully converted.

Before making my through the entire codex and fluff, I was thinking that would be really cool to have say jungle men, think Mayan or Aztecs wearing lizard skins being led by a Slann and riding the jungle beasts. The Saurus would be full sized men, and the skinks would be pygmies.

Then I read on some more, and found a reference of Lord Chuqa-xi from the City of the Moon (pg29 Lizdex) actually lobotomizing invaders and using them and using them in his army.

Then on pg42 Lord Ulha'up has actually left the Lizardmen Kingdom to spread the word of the Old Ones. I was thinking that it would be neat to have say followers from the different kingdoms (empire, dwarf, elves) wearing lizard suits following him around and being his army. Note it's referenced that Lord Ulha'up had gone quite mad.

So what do you guys think, would and army of converted men wearing Lizard Armor (Skulls and backs) work or am I just out of my mind?

Sounds like this would be a southlands based LIzardmen army...
I think the Jungle men would look prety good and a lot easier to do
and you could stil have a unit or two wearing lizard or gator skins. :)

You can find more about the lobotomized slaves in 5th edition or earlier fluff.

First off, kudos for putting thought into a conversion army in the first place.

I think though it would be a little weird for the non-lizard people to be wearing lizard skin though. I guess I first think its saurus skin. Maybe its just dino skin from the jungle?

If you went with n810's idea of a southland's army you could say these humans have come under the sway (or they just started worshipping the slaan) and have war paint & decorations on them. I would think using WoC Mauraders painted a darker skin tone would be fitting if you thought of them as a more primitive tribe. I don't have my book with me, but I remember it mentioning how the skinks will paint the saurus before battle, so little skink paw prints could be cool.

Aside from weapons & shields, you might have to be willing to do a lot of green stuffing to create skull helmets & such to create a 'story' on the models. You could also figure out a lot of feathers & "aztec looking" armor to through all over them.

You could also look at the old Amazonian models.

-it just occurred to me I'm not sure if humans & slaan can talk? telepathy?

    hope this helps a little.

Yeah... I'm thinking it'll be saurus skins. Maybe like the saurus in the area were infected by something, or whatever and started dieing, and the slann brought together the jungle men and had them wear the skins of the dead and created a new army to blah blah blah :)

Still trying to come up with fluff.

So what are the southlands, I've not hear anything about them. Totally new to Fantasy by the way :)

If you are able to look up the previous Lizardmen book you'll find info on the Southlands. I do believe they're mentioned in the big book's fluff section too.

And interesting idea you've got there! You could get to use a lot of models too, so I'm all for it.
Would love a dwarf slayer wearing a lizard-hide cloak running around, the image is splendid!

    Cheers!

The Southlands are basicly Warhammers version of Africia.

Does it have to be GW models? If not, The Assault Group do a nice range of Mezo-American style warriors. This is where GW originally got their inspiration (not the figure range, the history!).

There are guys in Jaguar and Eagle suits that would make nice Saurus plus lots of lesser warriors that might work as Skinks.

    Just something to think about.

Yeah not to concerned with them having to be GW models. I've actually ordered some Zulu models that I think will work really well for converting. http://www.wargamesfactory.com/wargames-factory-store/zulu-warriors

I'm hoping those will come in, in the next couple days so I can do a test.

You might also want to consider taking this in the other direction: Lizardmen wearing human skin. It would be so horrifyingly strange if it was done well.

Note sure haven't, I'm trying to use platics for converting because they are way easier to work with :)

I could.... but that just doesn't seem the way I want to go, maybe if I wanted corrupted chaos Lizardmen, maybe... lol

Yeah, I’ve got me some of those already. Nice enough models if a bit simple.

Oh just a thought, some of theDark elves have cloaks made from cold one hides
with lots of cales on them, not sure if you could convert those guys, or use bits from them.

If he goes with the Seadragon cloaks from the Corsairs he'd probably need to use Empire size humans since those cloaks are made for little elves.

Hmm very interesting looking model. I would probably take a bit more off the back of the saurus head so it could sit more level on the human head, rather than like it is looking down so far. Other than that, it will definitely be a unique looking army.

Might also want to consider either a smaller shield or cutting those shields down, it looks very big for the human.

Very nice work, I would also try and move the head down a bit, and get a few of the old school lizardmen shields from GW, they're a bit smaller, I do believe.

Ya I would defiantly move the head up so the guy underneath could see. Other than that looks cool.
