the shield of aeons abbility, how does it work when he is in a unit, do all cavalry models that are in bace contact with him have to make a dangerous terain test or what?
Because it does not specifically say that a unit he has joined also counts as defending a wall, I've always interpreted it as only affecting models that after a charge are in base contact, or engaged in a challenge, with Gor-Rok, specifically.
It's tricky because some effects are for him and others are for the combat. So for example if a unit of knights charge him in a block of saurus I'm sure they'd lose their +2 lance strength against him. The uncertainty comes whether they'd lose their +2 strength against other saurus (as they can't hide behind his shield). However they would normally gain +1 combat resolution for the charge... would they also lose this? Personally we say they don't get any benefit, no +2 strength (regardless of who they're fighting) and they lose their combat resolution bonus.
Gor-Rok is a regular in my lists and my understanding is as follows; Shield of Aeons- -Shield (adds +1 to armour save) -Counts as defending a wall (Chargers have -1 to hit in first round, cavalry/chariots take dangerous terrain on base contact edit: work this out the same way you work out who you can attack ie: 3 x 25mm bases are in contact) These rules apply to Gor-Rok only and the defending a wall rule only applies in combat (no -2 to hit from missile fire - unfortunately). On a side note, I'm quite peeved that you can't take a parry save if you have a magic weapon or shield. This makes Gor-Rok more killable... I still take him 'cause he's awesome and I like the conversion/paintjob I've done!
