So, I haven't been able to play him yet, and I am under the impression that I could kit up a scar-vet that might be just as affective and less expensive. However for one, the model rocks, for two Gor-Rok is pretty reasonably priced, and thirdly I can put him in a block of saurus and BOOM I have a stubborn unit, that rolls three d6 for all Ld test already which is nigh unbreakable for a core choice.

Has anyone had experience with this guy in battle, how did it turn out?

Is he worth it? Or would you just take a scar-vet?

    Thanks for all your comments!

From what I have heard he is quite good and offers some truly unique abilities that the scar vet can't get.
also the high toughness and 2+ armor save doesn't hurt either.

    He's pretty reasonably priced.

For 59 points (above a Scar Vet with Crown of Command and 2+ armor save), you get:

    +1T
    Magic Weapon
    Reroll Misses
    Predatory Fighter on 5+
    ITP
Enemy forced to make dangerous terrain checks at -1 when they charge into contact with him
2+ chance to change multiple wounds and killing blow to just 1 wound

That's pretty good for 59 points.

I think he's good. He's relatively hard to kill (T6, 2+ save, Resilient), he hits relatively hard (5+ PF and re-rolls to hit sounds like a good combination), buffs his unit (stubborn) and isn't exorbitantly expensive (also doesn't hinder my lord selection in anyway). So for me he ticks all the boxes for a good SC.

I tried him once against my brothers Beastmen. I rolled four extra attacks and wounded with a total of 7 attacks. I guess I'm pretty lucky though!

Haven't tried him yet but reading everyone's comments on him (especially Cannagheim) I can say that he is well worth his points. Also, remember that he went down in cost since last edition. Plus I love his fluff and the model is pretty sick too.

He's a great special character with a very specific role... he chews up infantry like nobody's business. At strength 5 he's not a can-opener by any means, but he'll usually hit on 2+ and then generate extra attacks quite often, each of which will ALSO hit on 2+, which means a lot of strength 5 hits. And should you lose combat, he'll keep his unit in place with his stubborn rule. I see this kicking in as his unit of saurus warriors becomes depleted, he'll keep fighting until he goes down basically.

Scar-vet with great weapon can perform different duties, though you'll probably have those guys on a cold-one and performing different roles.

I think you mean that he'll hit on 3+ (with reroll)? Unless you have sword of striking or some other bonus, the best you can get is to hit on 3+.

Yep. 3+ with a re-roll against most infantry (interestingly, the re-roll means he might be hitting on very similar amounts of attacks against troops he hits on a 4+, thanks to the 5+ Predatory Fighter), wounds on a 2+ or a 3+, likely doesn't allow armor. That's definitely the profile of a troop muncher, and the T6/2+/Stubborn only reinforce that claim. I think he's a great buy for the points.

I used him in the old rules and found him great (along with a Beasts Slaan). With the new rules, and the fact that there can be skink priests with beasts magic around, and a slaan with a 'better' magic lore I think he will rock.

Looking at his points, he is effectively a scar vet + crown + steg helm + magic weapon, both come out around the same, making him well worth it imo. Especially since a scar vet can't have all those magic items.

Somehow I thought he was at +1 to hit, but hitting on 3+ is still pretty good.

He re-rolls to hit which is better due to predatory fighter. A pity that he only has 2 wounds, most things that could KB him or multi-wound him would probably be able to do 2 wounds anyway.

One of the things i def like about the new book is the viable special chars, albeit only two really stand out (w Gor Rok being one). I'm halfway on the model but havnt seen it in person so will reserve judgement, but his rules and points costs make him an awesome choice. We dont usually play w special chars in my area but with all the new book releases bringing them in line, and properly nerfing the gross offenders, that may change in the near future!

Having another option to make a saurus block stubborn is a fantastic choice for lizards, get another hero w the crown and your rocking at least a cold blooded 8... your army center isnt budging!
