Not anymore. It was recently Faq'd to not work with spells. It now only works in hand to hand combat. However, it is still really nasty.
i couldnt see that on the faq . all i saw was one saying about ranged hits and it said yes Q: If a Wizard is hit by a ranged attack from the bearer of the Greedy Fist, does it lose a Wizard Level? (p62) A: Yes.
I cannot access the faq now, but you could find more information about it over on the OgreStronghold.com. I think it is part of the Ogre faq, but I am not sure. It could be in the BRB faq also. Using my phone, I found the Ogre thread. If you search for "Long live the Deathfist," you will find the thread. It was an update to the Ogre faq that was not advertised. Also, the question concerning ranged attacks was left in the faq as well. WooHoo, clear rules updates for the loss...
Here is the update from the Ogre FAQ that eliminates the ability to combine greedy fist with death spells: Page 62 β Greedy Fist, second paragraph. Change the last sentence to βIn addition, an enemy Wizard loses a Wizard level and a randomly selected spell each time they are hit in close combat by an Ogre wearing the Greedy Fist.β
As an Ogre player, I will be the first to say that the Greedy Fist needed that adjustment. It was way too powerful. Thanks for the post, Stonecutter.
but they left in the faq part about it working with ranged stuff Q: If a Wizard is hit by a ranged attack from the bearer of the Greedy Fist, does it lose a Wizard Level? (p62) A: Yes. so some ogre players are saying until that is removed then they will use death spells with it
I do not see how they can stand by that argument, I would love to use that combo, but the change in the rule book nullifies the fist. It is something that has been discussed at length on the Ogre Stronghold forum. If they take that position, you should research the topic on the ogre stronghold to get arguing points from those guys. They are the ones that alerted me to the change.
yeah but the best argument on there was this glittering scales says you are -1 to hit in close combat just like the new greedy fist says close combat. but then someone replied but glittering scales doesnt have a faq saying they benefit from -1 to hit from range
I can see the point, but I will no longer field it and use it in that way. In friendly games, just be prepared to take it out. In a tournament setting, I bet you will not see that combination used though.
