AoS rumors are that the Chaos Dwarfs will be making a return sometime "soon". Oathbreakers, is what I think they are calling them.

What have you done with @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl ?!? :rage:

I know an imposter when I see one!!! :punch:

    This is true.

And now they are selling for like 3X the cost on Ebay! :p Almost nobody bought them until they were gone.

If I can't field my Chaos Dwarfs and Tomb Kings, it's an instant deal breaker for me. Doesn't matter how good the rest of the game/rules are.

It does make me wonder though, how much of that is simply due to it being TW? Especially when it concerns potential new warhammer players.
I wouldn't be surprised if the actual interest in TOW ends up being much smaller than expected.

Yeah, the ruleset is going to be vastly more important than the factions.

Most TW factions can still be played (to some extend) in AoS. So a good chunk of potential new players will probably already have been absorbed by GW. Or possibly competing systems that happen to have some overlap.

TOW needs to stand out rulewise to compete with AoS, as well as every other competing system.

They still haven't revealed anything meaningfull have they?

I think you're right, the reason AOS initially worked to bring in new players was it was no longer prohibitive. 4 page rule book and didn't need 50-80 models painted and ready to play. Suddenly 20 models and a weekend and you were ready to play. They may be banking on the fact that most models can be used in both TOW and AOS. That or they do limited runs to see how the models sell.

That would be the smartest approach. Sell the same models to players of both systems.

I'm curious what they will release for them. Will there be anything I can poach for my 8th edition army? Models? Terrain?

Hopefully they will look nothing like the "AoS" era Chaos Dwarf models we've seen in Warcry.

Welcome to the family brother! !!!!!.png

What makes me wonder about TOW is that it's supposed to be set a long time before the End Times garbage happened. I've heard people speculating that a lot of characters and even factions may not be present at all in the game just due to the time period.

Personally, I think this would be a bad idea to leave out any old Warhammer factions, especially ones that have become playable in Total Warhammer. I know a lot of people are excited that they're going to be releasing Kislev models, for example. But a lot of people would be really disappointed if they couldn't play Lizardmen or Dark Elves, not to mention the Tomb Kings and Chaos Dwarfs that people keep bringing up here ;) That said, Chaos Dwarfs have been all but confirmed to be coming in AoS, so I would guess that their new models would also be useable in TOW.

I'm wondering if they're going to be releasing Cathay models now that they've been added to Total Warhammer, as well as if it will be feasible to use round-based minis in the game for us AoS players who want to try it out...

I think they would be smart to sell trays that hold the round bases in a regiment. Saves a ton of hassle for all involved.

Exactly do it right or don't do it at all, sell the TOW stuff with square bases, that AOS players can rebase on rounds, and sell trays with inserts for either.

As long as the base size is compatible. I think a lot of AoS models are on larger diameter bases. If they were to keep the standard WFB base sizes in ToW, a special movement tray for round-based AoS models won't work. For instance:

Infernal Guard are on 20mm square bases in WFB, but are on 25mm rounds in AoS
K'daai Fireborn are on 40mm square bases in WFB, but are on 50mm rounds in AoS
Saurus Warriors are on 25mm square bases in WFB, but are on 32mm rounds in AoS

    ...and so on.

So unless they were to change the old WFB base size standards, a movement tray for rounds won't help.

Don't get me wrong, I still dislike Vampire Counts and Sisters of Battle intensely and wouldn't give them house room, but I've simply realised that no amount of hatred from me will make them disappear, and that even if it did, I would be no better than GW ditching Squats, Tomb Kings, Bretonnia and Chaos Dwarfs - I'd still be shitting on and alienating fanbases, just for factions that I personally don't like. The end result would still be resentment, anger and discord. Why sink to that level when you can give everyone the miniatures they want and please all the different fanbases? Everyone deserve the right to be able to play the army they want to play, and get an equal amount of support for that army, and it's only by both keeping armies they have already put a lot into and resurrecting those they didn't give enough of a chance that GW can redeem themselves for their past mistakes and prove that they have turned over a new leaf.

Achieving a truly strong, masculine mindset as a man is all about being assertive, i.e. being willing to defend and advocate your views while simultaneously allowing others to do the same (so long as they respect your right to do so), and by advocating the replacement of Vampire Counts with Tomb Kings and Empire with Bretonnia in the past I have been petty and vindictive, seeking vengeance simply by fighting fire with fire. Stepping on others for personal gain, or even simply advocating it, is feeble beta behaviour, and it's high time I purged the last of such weakness from myself. I am better than that.

    Talking of impostors:
The mighty @NIGHTBRINGER, Grail Knight of 8th Edition, researching AoS Rumours? Whatever next! :p

In all seriousness, tell me more. Where did you first hear about this?

If this is true then my theory that GW were simply ditching the Forge World range to replace it with a plastic one may well come true!

I agree that faction inclusion is much more important than the ruleset.

So long as TOW remains faithful to 6th, 7th and 8th Ed Fantasy in pretty much any combination (as long as it doesn't involve the Horde rule :wtf:), which is likely given they've confirmed square bases are back and TOW is effectively 9th Edition, the ruleset doesn't matter. On the other hand GW's choices as to which factions they want to include will dictate whether they've truly repented for all the past mistakes they have made, and will reveal to us their attitude toward TOW. If they bring Bretonnia, Tomb Kings, Chaos Dwarfs and others back (at least largely in plastic with just special characters and big monsters being Forge World), then all shall be forgiven, as it will be clear that they do care and want to bring Fantasy back, just the way it was. It is certainly getting more likely given Squats are returning in 40K (now that that's happening, pretty much anything is possible), and I really want it to happen. I want to be able to return to a GW that had the same potential as the GW of my childhood, before Fantasy was killed off and before 40K became a bloatfest. If not, though, then it will show they've learnt less than I anticipated, and it's unlikely I'd get involved with TOW.

GW have already revealed that the time period TOW will be set in is during the reign of King Louen Orcslayer of Bretonnia, and the War of the Three Emperors in the Empire, so it's not too far back in the past for any of the existing factions to make an appearance - they all emerged/were created long before this era.

Without a doubt GW will likely be releasing Cathay models, given they share the position of being protagonist factions in Warhammer III Total War with Kislev, and also given the Chinese fanbase will be a pretty big one, so there's great money-making potential to be had there. Though the fate of the Kislev range may well be less certain given that GW have now stopped shipping to Russia to boycott Putin...

yep, i was going to point out exactly this.
Unless the square bases are going to increase in dimensions to match the round ones... in this case people with old WHB armies would be heavily "disappointed".

I mean, just make two sets of trays? Simple enough to solve. Especially if we just go for the smaller unit sizes dictated by the larger bases.
There's absolutly no reason they can't support both at the same time if they're going to trays anyway.

Easily fixable with a movement tray for square bases with spacers. Of course now the game is reliant on movement trays for square or round bases, but it is doable.

On the plus side, the extra space will make it easy to rank up old models!

I heard Vince Venturella discuss it on his Warhammer Weekly YouTube show. There are a bunch of rumors floating around and apparently clues dropped into AoS. Beyond that, I don't know much about it.
