Why the discord server instead of the forum? Are there more people there than here?

 

No idea, but it's been pretty active compared to here.

 

Mm... It is kind of annoying. I don't like using discord for such things, I like the neat and orderly system of a forum webpage, where all topics have their own page, instead of what is functionality a chat room... Or maybe I'm just getting old and cantankerous and set in my ways...

 

Oh, you're not the only one. I mean, Discord is far more functional in that role than Telegram ever was, but you're not wrong either in that things get buried far too easily if enough traffic is coming through.

My friend, who used to play SCE, and keeps up with them a little, quips that GW must have created the SCE to get beaten. Ever since 2nd edition, SCE just doesn't seem to have the points, bodies, or tricks to win most battles.

 

Wasn't Soul Wars the last major victory the SCE actually had their name? It's like GeeDubs heard people complaining that the SCE were just 'Spess Mahreens but fantasy', and so they went 'No, no... see, they actually lose big battles'. Except... that's all they've done for a while now. In order to prove they aren't as potent a force (and creator's pet) as the Astartes, they've gone in the complete opposite direction.

Except for giving the SCE far more model releases than every other faction combined. They're still shamelessly throwing SCE in our faces as their poster children.

 

Are you already abandoning TOW for AoS?

Nice to see that it is being released separately, outside of the boxed set.

 

I don't have the link, but apparently the Made to Order sets for the Dwarfs in Old World (Prince Ulther's Dragon Company Command & Prince Ulther's Dragon Company Warriors) have special rules that are only included in the box. Nothing about them in the Arcane Journal, if you want the rules, you gotta buy the Made to Order sets, which equals roughly £30 for four (for the command) or five (for the warriors) metal models.

So glad I don't play Dawi or have any intention of buying into them, but if my understanding isn't incorrect, this is a pretty... I don't know... and I really hope that these models do badly enough that GeeDubs doesn't think to apply such a method into other releases. And yes, I know the rules will be leaked online the day the first one arrives at a buyer's home, but I do not care for the notion of pay-walling the rules for limited release models like this.

Edit: But then I also think... wasn't this done in the past? I swear the classic/anniversary Space Marine model had unique rules?

I hate these sorts of underhanded sales tactics. A tabletop version of the video game pay-to-win model. Disappointing to see The Old World go down this route.

 

I missed the original Warhammer Fantasy Battles, so I have no idea who Prince Ulther and his Dragon Company are, or whether they'd even be that good. I see dated models, even by WFB standards, though not as bad as the Imperial Dwarf models.

Is the nostalgia for these ten models in particular really that bad?

 

Give it a hot minute after release and I guarantee someone will upload scans for the rest of the Internet.

 

The internet provides! Still a pretty sucky thing for Games Workshop to do.
