Another issue.... the GW suitcase to carry around warhammers doesn't have space for any larger warhammers... any ideas?

My friends and I tend to either use large plastic tubs lined with some sort of foam or something so we can carry our regiments all ready to go, and also we use these lovely carrying cases.

You can cut a few of the pieces between smaller holes out so that there is space for larger models, that foam is meant to be customisable so you can make as many large areas as you want. Just make sure you know what you want before you start cutting. :p

I use egg foam in my cases, and plenty of extra foam as padding. The important part is stopping the models moving around.

Don't glue the howdah onto the stegadon, it sits on perfectly well and firmly without any glue at all. Immediately having two seperate pieces means there is less bulk in your case and less chance of it breaking. However it is still a large model, I would just suggest carrying it in a seperate container, maybe a shoebox, if it is going to take up too much space in the case.

Nice thought.... good I haven't bought it yet what about the templeguard leader and the saurus warrior banner carrier its pointing forward which makes it hard to place anything on it?

Just lie them on their sides, you want to make sure as much of the model is flat as possible and if thin bits are sticking up, no pressure on them. Second to that, make sure nothing moves around. You can actually press foam reasonably hard on top of models without breaking them as long as they are lying flat, this stops them moving around.
