I know Slann lists are very popular, and I should probably think about building one.. but every time I look at a Slann list, it seems less fun than a melee list. Being fully aware of the lack of magic in this list, I submit this, a list with hopefully some punch. General: Old Blood Carnosaur Light Armor Scimitar of the Sun Resplendent Enchanted Shield Spear Hero: Skink Priest Engine of the Gods Level 2 Dispel Scroll Diadem of Power Saurus Scar Veteran Cold One Light Armor Sword of Battle Maiming Shield Core: 15x Saurus Spears Standard 12x Skink Skirmisher 12x Skink Skirmisher 12x Skink Skirmisher Special: 3x Terradons 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard 5x Cold One Calvary Standard Total Points: 2221 The Slann list is similar in design. Obviously focusing more on offensive magic. General: Slann Mage Priest Focus of Mystery Focus of Rumination Bane Head Power Stone x2 Cupped Hands of the Old Ones Hero: Skink Priest Engine of the Gods Level 2 Dispel Scroll Diadem of Power Saurus Scar Veteran Cold One Light Armor Sword of Battle Maiming Shield Core: 15x Saurus Spears Standard 10x Skink Skirmisher 10x Skink Skirmisher 10x Skink Skirmisher Special: 16x Temple Guard Standard 3x Terradons 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard Total Points: 2221 Same point total.. Which would be more effective. What would you change? What would you add, subtract? Like I said, I love the carno model, but at the same time the Slann is no slouch. I could make a good army based around either.. but I can't afford to do both right now. So I need to pick
Here's something I thought of myself... As much as I like my Scar Vet, I could drop him, add another priest on an EotG, and I'd be at 2497 points. I want to stay under 2500 for sure.
There is no point in having Diadem in your Slann list, you need your power dices for casting. If you want magic defence the discipline of becalming cogitation is better. What stops you from having a "melee" list with a Slann? The only difference is that you will have 1 fighty char less but you can still have tons of saurus, CoCs and stegs. Imo the Slann list (or at least a list with some magic offence) is much more fun as you can compete in all 4 phases instead of focusing on just one.
Yea I saw a list on TPV where somebody had made a Slann Temple block specificly outfited for combat leadership and magic defence... the Idea was to use them as an anvil and hamer in with some heavy flankers.
Updated list.. with a little more punch at closer to 2500 points. General: Slann Mage Priest Focus of Mystery Focus of Rumination Bane Head Power Stone x2 Cupped Hands of the Old Ones Hero: Skink Priest Engine of the Gods Level 2 Dispel Scroll Saurus Scar Veteran Cold One Light Armor Sword of Battle Maiming Shield Core: 15x Saurus Spears Standard 15x Saurus Spears Standard 12x Skink Skirmisher 12x Skink Skirmisher 12x Skink Skirmisher Special: 16x Temple Guard Standard 4x Terradons 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard 5x Cold One Cavalry Standard Total Points: 2485 Added 2 skinks to each unit and a block of Saurus with spears and standard. Also added 1 more terradon. Removed diadem of power since as stated I'll want to cast, and should be getting lots of dispell dice with the slann and priest on eotg anyways. Not sure if I should find an item to add to the priest.. could easily be done at minimal expense of a skink or 2.
More thoughts: The other option would be to remove the 2 extra skinks I added, the 4th terradon, dropping it back to a unit of 3, and adding an Ancient Stegadon. Should fit at about 2493 points.
