OK, here are my units so far (Both players have followed Warhammer for years, but just started actually playing): ---Edited--- 14 Saurus Warriors with Spears (Standard Bearer) - Scar Vet will be with this unit 15 Saurus Warriors with Spears (Standard Bearer) - The heart of my force 10 Skink Skirmishers (blowguns) - Basically to harass the VC's with poisoned darts 10 Skink Skirmishers (blowguns) - Mobile archery unit with Skink Priest attached + poisoned darts 7 Chameleon Skinks - One of these is a Stalker. - Character hunters...I hope 2 Salamanders - cause they're cool 1 Skink Priest (level 2) with Cupped Hands of the Old Ones (attached to a skink unit (or would he be better alone?) 1 Scar Vet with Shield, Light Armor, and Relic Sword (General) - Attached to a Saurus Unit?
It is a very well rounded force. I don't know if you will get your moneys worth from the terradons. Maybe if he brings a varghulf or a coach to the table, but since VC dont have artillery and he probably wont leave his general sitting outside a unit. The chameleons can fill the role of coach/varghulf killer in their stead. I would think about dropping them for another salamander. The more templates you can put on his hordes before combat the better.
deffiniatly the salamander, since fire damage can't be regenerated so lots of fire, also do not underestimate vampire coun't magic so I'd recommend not spending to much on your magic and just go on creatures with lots of Toughnes. I won't do these skinks chameleons, kroxigor are way better to do the lethal damage with there 3 atk's, and set these flyers in to damage his general or m8be a unit of 20+ skinks who will auto kill with 40 blow pipe strikes
OK, dropping Terries for a sally. If the opponent were another race, would the terries be good? Additionally, I will be expanding this force to 1500 for next Wednesday. Thinking of adding a Slaan and a Steg. Good? Bad? Also, am I spending too much on my magic? My opponent doesn't seem to use much, btw. Edit - Should I combine my Skinks into 1 unit? And should I field more Chams or drop them altogether? I had basically thought if using them as an ambush unit. I only currently have 1 Krox, so I'm kinda hosed there.
In 7th edition I loved terradons. In 8th I'm not sold. They are mainly warmachine/characater hunters, but I think chameleons perform that role alot better, but if you like them use them. At the very least it would probably be something your opponent isn't used to seeing. Cant go wrong with adding a slann. They are tide turners in any point level game, but especially nasty in the lower level games. Stegs are the same. They draw alot of focus, but that keeps the focus off of your other units, and a well timed charge into a flank or rear can be devastating. I dont think you have too much magic. The lvl2 will help dispel a crucial vanhels or invocation. Also, the signature spell from heavens is one of my favorite spells in the book and getting that off can almost guarantee a combat win for you. In smaller games I build a skink priest the same way and try and get him in range of the opponets wizard. Then I throw as many power dice as I can at whatever spells I have and see if I can get a miscast to transfer over to his wizard with cupped hands. This works especially well against VC and TK.
OK, edited army list in first post. New question: Would I be better served to drop the Stalker and some Chameleons to make my general a BSB? Or should I keep them for the damage output? ---Edit--- NM. Making my general a BSB would put my characters over the limit. Looks like my current list is finalized. Thanx a ton folks
