Hi guys. I'm actually pretty new to warhammer as I got in only a month ago, but I'm really onto it. Right now I have only the downloaded book, but I ordered a battalion, a skink priest and an oldblood from GW as my first army (they are expected to arrive in a month or so), and also I have a friend who may contribute some of his unused models to me. I want my army to be painted differently from those at GW, and so I'v looked a bit around the internet in photos of actual lizards, seeking inspiration, which I found. From most of the discussions here about painting I'v got the impression that LM turn out beautifully if painted in bright colors, and so I'v taken it into my mind. Please tell me what you think... Saurus I plan to paint them red with green, or red with black Skinks Yellowish green with green scales looks great to my opinion. Cold ones I'm thinking about different variations of blue, I think it will go great with all the gold masks. Characters Thought to paint my priest and my oldblood albino white, with a tinge of light orange.
Feel free to paint your lizards however you wish! Do it in a serious and consistent manner, and you'll be fine with basically whichever color you choose, even while I would never paint my own lizards any other color but blue Welcome to the hobby o/
Don't be afraid to start constructing lists either. Start noodling ideas for a 500 point army and submitting your lists for review. I find having a list to work toward helps drive the creative process.
I'd say keep the colours in a manner so that you use roughly the same for every unit... So if you decide to go with red black saurus I'd suggest red black skinks too... An army looks so much better if it's in union, rather than having an LSD feel over it... I don't see blue and gold go together thou... Keep it a rather brown-ish colour then, just so the colour you use is associated with some kind of brown, whether it's a yellow or a brown doesn't matter, as long as it's brown-ish, just like gold... Green tend to go well with gold... Welcome thou, and enjoy your stay. ^^ Cheers!
Blue and gold (ie yellow/orange) are EXACTLY perfectly matching colours according to colour theory (just look at a spectrum), thats why GW made their blue army (lizardmen) have loads of gold details and their white and gold army (TK) have loads of blue details (just go on GW website and look at the shield details etc). Blue gold and white just works (imo and according to colour theory that is) ps lizards have loads of white details often, eg all that bone on TG and on all saurus spines pps this is not saying you have to go blue and gold, just saying that it's tried and tested, obviously, nor that you shouldn't believe that it's ugly, just that convention is to believe it to be well matched. I like green with sandy bellies, or blue with whiter bellies personally (which is what my army has, though originally I wanted it green)
Thanks for the encouragements! I'll upload some pics as soon as I get my army at last, its WAY annoying to wait so much time.
I've gone with a khemri brown base, and various colors on the back scales. usually tinted the khemri brown 'skin' some. but then again, I just can never make up my mind so just made up my mind on 'undecided' and the rainbow brigade of multi-colored saurus =D though everyone has red/gold weapons and details, and various units have warpaint to differentiate.
