I am still a pretty new lizardmen player with only a handful of games under my belt. One issue I have is I don't seem to know how to properly deploy my chameleon skinks. I usually use 3 units of 5 chamos.

My opponents usually do enough spreading out to make deployment behind or beside their lines impossible due to the 12" rule. So I end up putting them sort of out in the middle of the field. To avoid getting charged right away though, I have to put them practically back where my own line is unless I gamble on getting the first turn so I can move them out of the way.

How do you all deploy and use chamos? Is the scouting rule not really for trying to deploy up close to the enemy and more of just getting to deploy the scouts at the end on your side? If there's warmachines involved I feel pressured to get as close as possible as quickly as possible.

    Thanks for any help!

Here is how I use my chameleons:

First, they are going to die! They are expendable. When they are charged, you can stand and shoot or you can flee. Either way, they will probably not contribute to the battle after that. I know these things before I place them.

Now, placement. If they have a definate target (warmachine, Casket of souls, HeroTitan), I place them 12 inches directly in front of their target. If there are troops in the way, so be it. If I do not get the first turn, they will likely be charged. In that case, I would probably flee. If their target is charging them, I will stand and shoot.

That is how I use them. If I were you, I would use 2 units of chameleons and one unit of terradons. That will allow you to position your chameleons and then let hte terradons fly over the front lines to get at the targets if you do not get the first turn.

    I have a question:

When to double tap, when to move?

Basically move and fire vs. double tap.

    Any insights?

Always double tap. Thats the beauty of chamo skinks. With BS 4 you can move, double tap and be long range and still hit on 6's. If you move and can end up with in 6' great you get to hit on 5's and maybe can an extra wound. Remeber to stay outside of the targets base movement speed so you can stand and shoot if you somewhere your gonna be charged.

It should be noted that if there is any added obstacle to shooting (i.e. skirmisher, shooting through a fence, shooting through a unit), you will be hitting on 7s at long range. That is when you would want to single tap.
