How's it going. I've just started getting my army together and was wondering if I could get help using a block of Saurus that are put together? Its the first part of my army that's on the way to being painted so I don't really want to deviate from it. As it stands I have a scar vet and 27 saurus warriors with spears being painted. As well I have a tray built for them 7 x 4.

How should I play this block?
What units/combo's would work well with this block?
Any tips on what unit I should work on next that would complement this block?

My ideas behind this block is that I will take on enemy horde units with it. I went with this formation because I figured a 7 wide formation will allow me to get the most attacks in with my Saurus. Also I went 4 ranks deep to help assure I get three ranks fighting. I have no idea if this blcok configuration is any good though as I've never played a game of fantasy.

    Thanks for any responses.

You will get all kinds of opinions on how to run these guys :)

I personally run my SW 5x6 or 6x5 (if using spears).

I run 2 blocks of those side by side with my Life Slann in a unit of TG (6x4) castled up right behind them or set back a few inches between with an Ancient Steg in front.

Makes for a pretty solid center, but again that is just me, you will get 100+ different opinions on how to do a build.

Well you can never go wrong getting a box of Skinks.

Hmm, not much will take 28 S4 attacks and not break. You'll need to be careful of your flank though, as one unit can be out maneuvered.

This is a great "anvil" unit, so you'll want a "hammer" unit to complement it. Kroxigor, Skrox, Cold One Cavalry, or Stegadons make good hammer units. Of course Salamanders complement everything right now, IMO, so don't forget about them. They'll soften up your enemies before the close combat starts.

    Agreed.

Would I be safe to work next on a unit of skink skirmishers and a salamander?

Seeing as how 95% of Lizardmen have a lot of those units, yea I'd say you where fairly safe. :smug:

I'm getting close to finishing off my block of saurus and starting to plan what I will paint next. Expanding the army to 1000 points I'm thinking about investing in a mage, flankers and chaff (not sure if I use this term right). Essentially, I would add a priest with scroll, chameleon skinks, skink skirmishers and salamanders. Does this seem like a viable way to expand upon my saurus block? I figure I have my anvil and now I need to build an army around it.
