Greetings! This is my first post (Wooohooo!). I played Lizardmen when I first got into Warhammer about 14 years ago. Since then I have played almost every fantasy army and never really found any that suited me better than Lizardmen. And when I say so I mean fluffwise, miniatures and how they work as an army. So I have decided to give them a go once more. I have been looking at different lists here and over at Warseer and think that most people use similar lists with a few twists here and there. I will play mostly with friends but I will be playing at gaming clubs once and a while and my plan is that this army will be used at tournaments when I have the chance. So, with his rambling I really want to say that I need your help to make this happen. I still doesn't have a single miniature (But I have the Armybook) and don't want to buy stuff that I wont use later on because they are a bad choice. Thank you. Kind regards Atnak
Welcome back to money pit that is Warhammer! I think it would be safe to say that there really are no bad units in the LM army. I use all that I have, the only thing I don’t own are Razadons and Terrordons. Moreover, not saying I would not use them just saying I do not own them. Never needed Razordons before but apparently they work brilliantly against Ogres, don’t know if that justifies buying them or not. But we are lucky that pretty much everything we have is useful all the time. Lots of Saurus, Temple Guard, a Slann, Salamanders are a must, tons of skinks, Krox...it is all good stuff. Dont know if helped at all.
Thank you for the replies. I have found a Lizardmen lot who are used but nothing is painted and several things are not even glued together. I'm probably going to place a bid... It contains the following: 1 Slann Mage-priest 1 Saurus Oldblood 1 Skinkpriest on stegadon 1 Skinkpriest 36 Saurus warriors (6 glued) 36 Skinks (24 glued, 18 with Javelin and Shield, 6 with Blowpipe) 20 Temple Guards 8 Cold one Riders 3 Kroxigors (1 glued) 6 Chameleon Skinks 2 Salamander Hunting Parties I think that it looks good. My list would include at least something of everything from this list except for the Cold one riders and maybe one less skink priest. Was thinking of a Slann, one or two blocks of Saurus warriors, Some skinks with Kroxigors and then Salamanders and Skinks/Chameleon skinks.
Looks perfect for getting you back into the swing of things and learning 8th ed. You could be very competitive with just those models for sure. Fill out the rest to suit your personal play style at you own leisure
I have received my army now Very pleased with it. Everything was in good condition and now I can start thinking about how to build my army.
I'm currently sitting and making a list based on the miniatures I have. I will be using it at a tournament this summer so I want it to be as good as possible. Any ideas?
Here are some tips which have helped me out (strategically) 1. Your Slann is amazing, he can seriously dominate virtually any magic phase if you use him right, even against other magic-heavy armies like Elves and VC. 2. Salamanders are amazing against Hordes (especially if your Slann uses Shadow magic, oh god) 3. Don't underestimate Skinks. I've killed a Hellpit Abomination in 2 shooting phases with a unit of 20 Skink Skirmishers, that unit cost I think a little under 200. 4. Saurus are squishier than you think. I know the books says they can hold water against WoC but sadly that is untrue, as you will find out if you try to take them head on. Lizardmen are an Elite army but we still need to support our units as we don't have any deathstars like Chosenstar or Grave Guard. And one piece of advice for you if those Cold one Cavlary aren't assembled yet. Don't make them into CoC, use 3 of them to make 3 mounted Scar-Vets and then use the rest for unit fillers or make them into actual CoC if you really want to but mounted Scar-Vets are the bomb but sadly our Heavy Cavalry are some of the worst.
I keep reading that Skink and Kroxigor units work really bad. Is it worth taking the Kroxigors solo and use more Skinks with blowpipes instead? Because with the miniatures I have I will be facing major trouble to reach 2500 points if I drop the Kroxigors.
Kroxis on their own are absolutely worthless. They strike last, are way too expensive and only get S4 Stomps. Skrox don't have to bad, you just have to keep them away from anything with many attacks. If you can get them into Monsters (they can't get stomped), Chariots, generally anything with high strength and low attacks they can be quite good.
