Hiya I am relatively new to warhammer and regularly pit my poor lizardmen band against anything my husband fancies and sometimes i win sometimes i loose until they came up against orcs and goblins!! he has the new list and lots of fancy stuff particularly chariots and a wyvern he favours night goblins so his magic is sneaky!! he always smashes my poor skinks up sometimes all in the first turn. i know i can beat them but I need any tactical advice. i have the usuall array of slan tg saurus skinks krox stegs etc.
Welcome to the forum. O&G are fairly interesting to play against. His biggest weakness will be his low leadership on his goblins. Your best bet will be salamanders. Burn them and watch them run from the wounds caused. His magic can be delt with by taking a slann with becalming cogitation, a priest with a dispel scroll, and a priest with the cube of darkness. Make sure to take some chameleons to deal with warmachines. They can also deal with the wayvern. If he likes to use fanatics, use skink units of 10 skirmishers or cohorts to flush those out early in the game.
Hi...I'm a Lizardman player but my first army is O&G so I have a bit of insight into how they play and how to beat them. The first thing to do is echo the above post....Salamanders are your best friends. Orcs don't like them but Goblins absolutely hate them, even just two single salamanders running around will cause no end of problems for the O&G. Its defiantly worth remembering that if you cause a Night Goblin unit to flee before the fanatics are released then they are lost. Swarm bases are worth considering as well as skirmisher units to get fanatics out nice and early. 5 man Chamo Skink units are also useful for this as they can be within release range in the first turn. Do everything you can you make sure that the fanatics are released on his side of the board rather than yours. All three options are also good for getting rid of Mangler Squigs cheaply although you can probably poison them to death without the sacrifice. If he's using a Wyvern and or chariots then you might want to consider a Skrox unit as it can't be thunder stomped and gets poison stand a shoot so it will match up will against the Wyvern Boss. The Krox attacks will give you a chance to hurt that Wyvern. Also unlike against other armies, if you are facing lots of goblins then they're fairly comparable in combat to skinks and your unit will be hitting on 3's including the Krox! Fear is also your friend here. Against chariots the impact hits will kill plenty of skinks but i'm guessing we're talking wolf chariot units so your Krox will mince those in CC as well...Hitting on 3's wounding on 2's no AS. Also M6 on the unit will give you a big tactical advantage over most of the O&G army. In the magic phase your Slann should have few problems. Be aware O&G hate I tests so you should look to cause as many as possible. Shadow is a good choice of Lore as CC is the O&G's strongest phase so if you can nerf them there then they're in trouble. If you have the points, an etherial Slann is a really well protected one as there are very few options for carrying magical weapons on the O&G army, only really bosses as no champions can take them. Watch out for the Eddbutt spell though if he's using orc shaman as it will be able to target your Slann even in the Temple Guard and can cause D3 S5 magical wounds.
