I just got my hand on some lizardmen from 2003. I have no experience with painting metal figurenes, repainting figurenes or restoring old paint. Do you guys have any tips you can give me? Everything appreciated!

Simple green is always a safe bet for removing paint. If you leave the miniatures in it for a couple days you should be able to clean the paint off with an old toothbrush. Make sure to wash them in soapy water afterwards and let them fully dry. Metal miniatures can often time tolerate harsher chemicals, but you risk destroying some potential resin or plastic part of the model you might have been unaware of.

If any of the parts have broken apart then I recommend repairing them through a process called pinning. Using a small hand drill you can make two holes, one of each of the separated pieces, and then cut a paperclip to size. Glue the section of clip into each of the holes while rejoining the model. This will add stability and hopefully reduce further breaks.

Seal coating is an important final step with all miniatures, but it is even more so with metal ones. Due to the weight and density of the model they are much more prone to paint chipping and peeling with use. A good matte or stain varnish will go a long way to preserving all your hours of painting.
