The next Fantasy tournament at my game store will be held with the following rules: -2000 points -1 1/2 hour timed battle -Unlimited % of Lord and Hero choices -No duplicates of character types (i.e. only one Bloodthirster, but a Great Unclean One may also be taken) -One unit of core/ special/ rare may be taken per character in the army; units are limited to 15 infantry or 6 mounted/ monstrous models -No war machines -Monsters encouraged (+ comp) -Painting & converting scores weigh heavily So, here is the list I have planned so far: Slann: BSB, Standard of Discipline, Plaque of Tepok; Becalming, Rumination 15x Temple Guard: Full Command, Firefly Venom for champion Scar Veteran: Light Armor, Shield, Anti Hero Sword, Dragonhelm, Luckstone, Potion of Speed Oldblood: Carnosaur, Great Weapon, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Other Trickster's Shard Skink Chief: Ancient Stegadon, War Spear Stegadon 2x5 Chameleons That's 2000 exactly. Life is definitely looking like the best magic choice, and Light would work too, with some modifications to the list. So, how well do you think this will do in proving our cold-blooded superiority?
Update: the tournament is on the 23rd, so I have some more time to prepare. This is good, because the new pet kitten just pulled over the shelf holding all my finished metal models... *sigh* Anyhow, your input would be greatly appreciated on the list. I'm expecting Daemons and High Elves for sure, and possibly Tomb Kings (Settra!) and Empire. Thanks!
It looks very good. Not much I would do to change it, looks quite solid. I would almost maybe go with terradons just because of their high mobility and the dropping rocks. Salamanders could also be a fairly good choice. I would definitely take Light for this one. That or Beasts for character buffing. Light is great because of Timewarp and Speed of Light.
Because there are unlimited heroes in this tournament, I would take lore of beasts. I might even consider taking Tehehuin (along with a lore of beasts slann with the plaque). That way, you would be almost guaranteed to get the transformation of Khadon on Tehehuin. Just a thought.
I would have loved to play a unit of 15 skinks with a front rank consisting of 5 skink chiefs. Buff it with some fun stuff from the lore of your choice and see if they will make their low cost count. Other than that I think 2 carnosaurs ( guess nobody has the models but its fun to dream) would accually be efficient in such a competition. The hardhittinh multiplewounds that they can dish out against the large number of multiwound targets that you will face will probably make them into brutal killingmachines, especially since there are no warmachines. In reality I have no idea of what I would field but it is an interesting ruleset. Please post seme batlereports telling us how it works out.
Tournament's over... It was interesting, to say the least. Lizardmen by and large gave an excellent account of themselves; battle report coming soon.
Well, it's like this... The shelf is in a bookcase, and it's held up by little metal tabs. There's pet food stored on the top shelf (my old lady does a rescue program with the local animal shelter, so there's always critters here) and the kitten was trying to climb the shelves to eat it. The Lizardmen were displayed just below, and when he tried to pull himself up onto their shelf, the wood plank slid off the tabs... The Kitten was fine, of course. Here's the link to the battle report if you're interested. http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/hero-hammer-tournament-results-are-in.5351/ I thought about taking Death, but figured if I was close enough to use it, the Temple Guard would be fighting very soon, and almost none of the spells in that lore can be cast into close combat. In hindsight it would have been cool, especially with Bane Head and a Priest with the Forbidden Rod to have a massive hero-sniping magic phase. It still wouldn't have helped with the last battle though.
