So I have been searching for my own little 'niche' within the High Elf Community and decided that I would make a real attempt at making MSU work in my local Meta, which is rather happy with Horde formations (more money then sense)

I am setting up this thread to keep a detailed account of my High Elf force and the changes that I make to the list and the thoughts that I have after the excitement of battle and the associated honour or despair has faded slightly.

Please all feel free to join in and give advise, critism ect as only through tempering (debate) is the sharpest blade forged, also gaining an opponants insight into the list would give me some useful information

    The Original List

    Prince - 252 pts
Great Weapon, Bow of the Seafarer, Armour of Caledor, Luckstone

    Mage - 145 pts
    Level 2, Silver Wand, Shadow

    Noble - 174 pts
Battle Standard Bearer, Great Weapon, Dragon Armour, Reaver Bow, Dragonhelm

    24 Archers - 289 pts
Mus, Std, Banner of Eternal Flame

    10 Archers - 115 pts
    Mus

    10 Archers - 115 pts

Repeater Bolt Thrower - 100 pts

    Great Eagle - 50 pts

    Great Eagle - 50 pts

    1996 Points

    Strengths

Speed Bump Units (White Lions and Phoenix Guard)
These two units game after game made back their points protecting my squishy archers, without the Phoenix Guard my right flank would have been enveloped by hordes of chittering Goblins, Empire Halberdiers and Slaaneshy Daemons who would have rampaged through my archers with wild abandon.

In contrast, without my White Lions I could not begin to roll up my opponants battleline whic distracted him and forced him to pull units out of the advance leading me to focus fire on the unit advancing towards my archers.

    Mage
This guy is the glue that holds the army together, without Miasma (and whatever else I fancy) I could not have messed with my opponants battelines and units forcing fights to be in my favour

    Weaknessed

    Enemy Chaff
I really struggled against enemy chaff units, I simply did not have enough units that I could deal with the main threat and the minor annoyance at the same time, this obviously made the battles more difficult as I had to take charges from 5 man wolf rider units losing shooting for a turn

Below is how I stand at the moment, I'm not entirely sure how the changes that I have made will affect my tactics and gameplan but feel that I am a little more able to counter threats as and when they appear.

    List Version 1.2

    Prince - 252 pts

    Mage - 145 pts
Level 2, Silver Wand, Lore of Shadow

    Noble - 174 pts

    23 Archers - 278 pts

14 White Lions of Chrace - 243 pts

    6 Shadow Warriors – 96 pts

    Great Eagle - 50 pts

    1996 Points

So in this version of the list I had to be fairly ruthless with my blocks to fit in what I wanted which resulted in me dropping

    - 1 Archer from the Main block (now 8 points clear of 25%)
    - 6 Phoenix Guard
    - 4 White Lions

    and I gain

    - 6 Shadow Warriors
    - M6/LD9 White Lions
    - Eagle

I'm not entirely sure on the Shadow warriors, ok I gain another 5 shots per turn (I dropped an Archer remember) so I am thinking that my scouts should deploy in cover somewhere and make a nice juicy target for enemy chaff to charge (or even hold up a combat block for a while) where I can get a few shots off with Stand and Shoot and make my unit stubborn in CC (due to lots of woodland on the local tables). I have other options that I can run but all of these include me dropping either the White Lions or Phoenix Guard for Swordmasters and while yes they’re amazing (SM) they lack the durability that I need and the two units i already have provide me.

I am a little more comfortable with the amount of Eagles that I have, one of my main opponants takes 2 Mangler Squigs on a regular bases so effectively I lose both Eagles and he loses both Manglers, the addition of another Eagle will allow me to hopefully threaten warmachines/wizards after the Manglers have gone and also will allow me to have more manouverability against other armies that I play against.

White Lions, I added the movement banner to this unit as I need them to perform in the list, they typically do not get magical buffs so Movement 6 will have to do on them. I am also considering the +1 leadership banner as LD9 Stubborn unit would also start to become an anvil/tarpit that has a decent damage output
