Like the title asks, how much core do you have on hand? I feel like I don't have enough but don't know what to add next. I currently have 2 blocks of 19 Saurus with spears, a block of 24 with hand weapons and 2 blocks of 16 skinks with javelins. It comes to about 1050 points. What would you suggest next or is there a better layout to what I have? I want to make sure I have enough core to support some new stuff.

How many points are you playing? For the skinks, I'd run them as separate 10 man squads (skirmishers), although I haven't seen the new codex yet.

Without seeing the rest of your list, it's hard to know whether or not this is ample. Maybe 2 x 24 Saurus blocks and 4 x 10 Skink skirmishers to flank with?

I'm running 4 x 10 Skirmishers and 3 x 10 Skink Cohorts for my 1500 point list if that helps at all (i.e.: a little under 1/3 of my list is core)

That is a fairly large amount to start with.

    I currently have:

45 Saurus (a mix of spear and HW/sheild)
    175 skinks (again a mix)
14 Kroxigors (mainly for the skrox units, thats why I include them in a core discussion).

That said, I could really use another box of saurus.

Wow that's a lot of Skinks. Thanks for the help. I'm not really looking at a specific points value but I do like playing large games and wanted to see how everyone lays out there core choices. I do have 6 Kroxigor as well but haven't figured out how I should play the skinks I have.

You can never have enough Skinks. I have about 170 myself.

it depends on how big the standard game size you play if its 2500 points you proberly only need 1-2 blocks of sarus 1 skrox block and 3-4 units of skirmishers to give you some selection choices

unless your like me who is trying to build an army to represent thlaxan city of the moon

i have 130 sarus (about 60 have spears)

    and 200 odd skinks

    This. Is. True.

    When in doubt: skinks!

I just painted up another 2 units of 10. There's always a use for them! Even laughing at them if they get into combat :p

Well i have, and usually run 44 saurus in 1-2 units (though imma have to swap some arms to switch hand weapons for spears), 2-3 min skinks, 1-2 min skrox with 1 krox a piece ( since the big guys can now be hit in cc!!) I like that i have a hard choice now in what to bring.... they are all average core... but equally average :D

Whatever 25% of your army points limit is. Going beyond that is a waste, we have better units than Saurus or Skinks to take.

The usual loadout is 1-2 blocks of Saurus, 1-2 blocks of Skrox, and maybe some small Skink blowpipe units for harassment.

I would focus more on getting magic and ranged attacks into your list with the rest of your points. Even with the new book we're really weak in the Shooting phase.

I tend to disagree with this a bit. I think our Skink Skirmishers are one of the most cost effective units we have out of any part of our book.

In a 2500 list id probably go for 1 block of 30 saurus warriors + FC and 4x 10 Skink skirmishers. But that was before the new book (although I dont think I'll change that). With that youll be just over the core minimum.

Then I usually get a block of TG, 25-30 of them. That gives me two blocks of decent CC, 4 units that have potential for redirect and harass. That leaves me with a good 1000 points to play with (after including the slann). So plenty of room for more annoying stuff like terradons, stegs, chameleons, couple of cowboys, and more.

I used to play my Slann solo alot to drop the price of those TG, not sure how well that goes now with the new book.

    +1. On every single point.

Although I think I run even more support than 4 units of skinks. Chameleons, terradons and salamanders always find their way into my list...those sneaky gits! o_O
