I've been running some tests by matching up equal point value units of Saurus with Skrox in order to determine which has the best damage output potential.

My findings have been that the skrox unit (which I run 10 wide with four kroxigar) kills on average 75% more in points than it loses to the Saurus. I think, for me, this solidifies that the Saurus are not as effective for their points as are their Skrox counterparts. Add in things like fear and movement speed 6, and its skrox all the way. Yes, I know the big skrox unit is more vulnerable to shooting, but that's what the life lore is for!

Anybody run similar tests? Just match the 2 units up against each other and mock roll? Would be interested to hear your results as well.

The problem about number crunching is that it lacks one thing, psychology. Opponents will target the skrox unit simply because it has those big krox in there. It's the same reason that empire steam-tanks take tons of hits and shrug it off as even if it dies it just saved half of your army so a block of saurus I've found lasts longer simply because of the fear of big monsters in your lines.

That works both ways though. If nobody's attackin the Saurus, then they aren't doing any damage either.

How are you adding up the skink attacks? Cause it seems to me that you'd only ever get 15 skink attacks (assuming you actually get all 10 models engaged). Granted, 12 kroxigor swings is pretty effin good...

3 ranks fight in a horde, so you get the skinks from behind the kroz attacking too

Iffy, I would think that since Krox count as two ranks they would eat up the extra rank of attacks as well.

The Krox kill that third rank. The best you can hope for is the skinks on the sides of the krox.

They both have their plus and neg sides. The Skrox groups are fast, fearcausing and nice to get charges off quickly. They do get picked off easily by shooting, and if they happen to get charged (or you charge a front of an infantry block) youre basically giving away free combat res.

The Saurus warriors are slow and easily outmanoevered, but a block of 6x4 can take a hell of a lot of punishment. Especially when they are supported by a Slann with the Lore of Life.

I personally prefer the Saurus blocks to play with, but i have yet to try a Skrox horde. I will definately give them a try ;)

i agree. krox do take up that 3rd rank so you're not allowed to fight with the skinks behind the krox. so you're actually limited in attacks.

overall, i still prefer the saurus blocks over skrox. i love skrox units because they can do a lot of things for their points but when it comes to pure combat, nothing beats saurus warriors.

Take both, it's best of both worlds. Saurus in the face, skrox in the flank. They are different tools for different situations but they can compliment each other very well.

Ohh, I must have misunderstood that then
I read it as being, models in base contact with a model in base contact with an enemy can make a supporting attack, and in a horde, models in base contact with them can attack,
